In some parts of Wales, second homes make up nearly a third of all properties. For local young people trying to buy their first home, that raises a big question – are second homes pricing them out of the communities they grew up in?

Up to 3 million people in Hong Kong are to be granted new rights to live and work in the UK. The decision follows China’s imposition of a new security law which makes it a crime to undermine Beijing’s authority.
Boris Johnson denounced the legislation as a “clear and serious breach” of the 1985 Sino-British joint declaration, which set out how certain freedoms would be protected for 50 years after China took over sovereignty of Hong Kong in 1997.

The US has admitted, for the first time, that it deployed a space weapon in Earth’s orbit.
It said the weapon was necessary to safeguard US forces against hostile enemy action, but didn’t elaborate on the weapon’s capabilities or when it was put into orbit.

Scotland has become the first country in the world to make period products free for all.
MSPs unanimously approved the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill on Tuesday.
There is now a legal duty on local authorities to ensure that free items such as tampons and sanitary pads are available to “anyone who needs them”.
The bill was introduced by Labour MSP Monica Lennon. She has been campaigning to end period poverty since 2016.
She said it was a “practical and progressive” piece of legislation made all the more vital because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Periods don’t stop for pandemics and the work to improve access to essential tampons, pads and reusables has never been more important,” she added.
