Eastern Ukraine residents brace for Russian advance | BBC News
In February, Russia captured the strategic town of Avdiivka, in the Donetsk region.
Since then, the invaders have advanced further west, and taken several villages.
Ukraine says its forces are “holding on”. But Russian troops are now attacking in five areas along the 1,100km (700 mile) front line.
Over 1.2 million people – or two thirds of the population – have left the Ukrainian-controlled Donetsk region since Russia’s full scale invasion two years ago.

Andy Burnham has reacted to Keir Starmer’s resignation, and confirmed that he will try to replace him as Labour leader and prime minister.
“His decision marks the beginning of a transition and it is important that this process is conducted in an orderly and responsible way. I will put myself forward as part of this process”, Burnham said on social media.
While Starmer had been vowing to fight any leadership challenge, the tone shifted after Andy Burnham beat Reform UK in the Makerfield by-election on Thursday, and he announced his resignation on Monday morning.
Former Health Secretary Wes Streeting has said he will back Burnham’s bid.

Direct talks between the US and Iran are set to begin in Switzerland despite the Iranian military saying it has closed the Strait of Hormuz again over Israel’s attacks on southern Lebanon.
Iran also cited a breach of its agreement with the US to end the war as a reason for the closure.
However, the US military has said “traffic continues to flow” in the strait.
