Iranians seek the truth about a deadly school strike | Global News Podcast
The BBC’s senior investigations correspondent Nawal Al-Maghafi, has just returned from the site of an Iranian school where more than 150 people – most of them children – were killed by a strike on the first day of the US-Israel war with Iran.
She tells us that victims’ families are still searching for the truth about what happened at the Shajareh Tayyebeh Primary School in Minab.
US media have reported that American military investigators believe it is likely that US forces carried out the strike unintentionally. Expert analysts say footage shows a US Tomahawk missile hitting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) compound next to the school during the same wave of strikes.
The US government has not admitted responsibility for the strike. President Donald Trump has said we may never know “whose fault” it was, because “there were missiles flying all over the place”.
Nawal Al Maghafi reported from Iran on condition that none of her material is used on the BBC’s Persian Service. These restrictions apply to all international media organisations operating in Iran.

Trump signs deal to develop Saudi Arabia nuclear programme | BBC News
The US and Saudi Arabia have announce a deal allowing the Gulf kingdom to develop a civil nuclear programme.
The agreement is likely to hand billions of dollars to US companies, to build facilities to produce the enriched uranium used as fuel for power plants, but which can also be used to make nuclear bombs.
Some nuclear experts, along with officials in Israel, have warned that the plan could ultimately lead to Saudi Arabia developing a nuclear weapon.
It’s understood that the deal allows US companies to develop and manage nuclear power facilities in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia, along with Israel, is one of the closest allies of the US in the Middle East. The deal will raise concerns over nuclear proliferation in a highly unstable region beset by conflict.
The US and Israel have justified their war with Iran as necessary to prevent it developing nuclear weapons, something that Tehran denies planning to do.
Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Sarah Smith in Washington.
