Uber launches UK’s first robotaxis in London | BBC News
Londoners are able to hail the UK’s first robotaxis – as Uber today becomes the first company to launch a self-driving minicab.
Initially, it only has 15 autonomous vehicles with a licence to operate in the city, and each one must have a human safety driver behind the wheel ready to take control if anything goes wrong.
Uber said it surveyed London-based customers via the app and more than 100,000 said they would choose a self-driving taxi if one was available, despite incidents of driverless rides malfunctioning in US cities where they already operate.

BBC visits area near Middlesbrough at heart of police investigation after A66 crash | BBC News
It has been just over two weeks since a crash on the A66 duel carriageway near Middlesborough, which killed seven people – including two police officers.
The BBC’s Ed Thomas has travelled to the Grangetown area of the city, which, along with the South Bank area, has been the focus of a large police operation into organised crime following the tragedy.
Speaking exclusively to the BBC, Cleveland Police’s Chief Constable Victoria Fuller has said she is proud of her “brave” force but that it was being “let down” by the way it was funded, following the fatal crash.
She said her officers are dealing with some of the highest crime levels in the country akin to those faced by metropolitan forces, but with less than half the number of officers.

Why is the next Silent Hill set in Scotland? | BBC News
Silent Hill, the psychological survival horror franchise from Japanese studio Konami, has for the most part been set in America, although the most recent excursion – Silent Hill f – was based in Japan in the 1960s era.
Now in Silent Hill Townfall, made by the Glasgow-based team Screen Burn, that location is in an entirely new place – Scotland, albeit a fictional part of it – St Amelia. Scotland was initially going to be more of an influence than a setting, but the team ultimately decided to embrace it fully.
Director Jon McKellan spoke to BBC Tech Now’s Laura Cress at Gamescom, Cologne.
