Kanye offers to meet Jewish community in UK after Wireless Festival controversy | BBC News

Published

Kanye West has said he “would be grateful” to meet members of the Jewish community in the UK after controversy over his headline booking at this year’s Wireless Festival.

In a statement, the Board of Deputies of British Jews said it was “willing” to meet the rapper, on the condition that he pulls out of his planned performances at Wireless.

For almost half a decade, West has caused outrage for a string of antisemitic, racist and pro-Nazi comments. He released a song called Heil Hitler and sold merchandise featuring the swastika.

Melvin Benn, managing director of Festival Republic which organises the event, admitted that Festival Republic had failed to consult with Jewish communities in the UK before making the booking.

He added, “We will have our hands on the microphone controls at all times. I’ve done that many times in the past.”

In a statement, the rapper, now known as Ye, said, “I know words aren’t enough,” adding that “I’ll have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here.”

Meghan apologises to court for misleading statement in privacy case – BBC News

Published

on

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has apologised to a court for forgetting about biography briefing notes she gave to an aide, in her privacy case against the Mail on Sunday’s publishers.

The Appeal Court heard she had asked an aide to pass on information to the authors of a biography – despite having earlier said she “did not contribute” to the work.

Meghan said she had forgotten the events and had not intended to mislead.

Associated Newspapers is trying to overturn a ruling after it published a letter from the duchess to her father.

Meghan, 40, won her privacy case against the publisher of the Mail on Sunday earlier this year, when the High Court found its publication of the letter was unlawful.
