🥊 Joe Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacy | FULL FIGHT | IBF/WBO/RING Super-Middleweight Boxing | 4/3/2006
Joe Calzaghe 40–0 (31 KO) vs. Jeff Lacy 21–0 (1) (17 KO), billed as Judgement Day, was a professional boxing match contested on 4 March 2006, for the IBF, WBO and The Ring championship. It pitted long-time WBO champion Calzaghe against up and coming IBF champion, American Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy.
Joe Calzaghe had been WBO super middleweight champion for over eight years having beaten Chris Eubank for the vacant title in 1997. He had held onto his belt for 17 defences and was considered on the fringes of being one of the best fighters of the world.
Jeff Lacy was an American champion who had been compared to Mike Tyson in size and was considered one of the hottest prospects in American boxing. In 2004 he won the IBF title against Syd Vanderpool by TKO in the eighth round.
Most American journalists wrote off Calzaghe’s chances of victory and the odds were against Calzaghe despite having an equally perfect record, and even people in the UK doubted him.
Prior to the fight, Calzaghe was worried about his left hand after breaking it against Evans Ashira. He contemplated pulling out of the fight only for his father Enzo and Frank Warren to persuade him to take a potentially life-changing fight.
The fight was staged at 2.00am local time at the MEN Arena in Manchester and topped the bill on Frank Warren’s Sport Network and was live on ITV in the UK and Showtime in the United States. The Ring announcer was Jimmy Lennon, Jr. and the referee was Raul Caiz.

😱Hasim Rahman KNOCKED OUT Lennox Lewis in South Africa 25 years ago today‼️ #ONTHISDAY #KO
😱Hasim Rahman KNOCKED OUT Lennox Lewis in South Africa 25 years ago today‼️
Billed ‘Thunder in Africa’ the bout took place in the Carnival City Casino in Brakpan, South Africa for the WBC/IBF/IBO Heavyweight titles.
Lewis, a 20-1 favourite, trained for the bout in Vegas while filming scenes for ‘Oceans Eleven’ for a boxing match with Wladimir Klitschko whilst his opponent had already set off for Brakpan.
With the African city sitting 5,200 feet above sea level (Vegas is 2,000) the champion didn’t arrive in the country until 12 days before fight night, while a full-trained and fully-motivated Rahman pulled off one of the biggest shocks in the history of heavyweight boxing as he flattened the Brit to become unified champion of the world.

😱Rahman SHOCKS the WORLD🌎 | Lennox Lewis vs Hasim Rahman | WBC/IBF Heavyweight Boxing | On This Day
Lennox Lewis vs. Hasim Rahman, billed as Thunder in Africa, was a heavyweight professional boxing match contested between unified WBC, IBF, IBO, and lineal champion Lennox Lewis, and Hasim Rahman. The bout took place on 22 April 2001 in Brakpan, South Africa. Rahman, who was a 20–1 underdog, won by knockout in the fifth round. It was one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.
Following three successful title defenses in 2000, Lennox Lewis turned his sights on a potential superfight with Mike Tyson. Lewis had originally hoped to meet Tyson during the summer of 2001, however, Tyson was issued a three-month suspension early in the year after testing positive for marijuana following his 2000 fight with Andrew Golota. Lewis opted to make his next defense against little-known Hasim Rahman. Lewis came into the fight as a 20–1 favorite and paid little attention to his opponent, having begun negotiations for his long-awaited match with Tyson while also being challenged to a possible unification match by WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz. Brakpan, Gauteng, South Africa, is 5,200 feet above sea level. Rahman arrived on 27 March so he would have time to adjust to the high altitude, but Lewis didn’t arrive until 10 April. Lewis trained in Las Vegas, Nevada, which is 2,000 feet above sea level. He trained in Las Vegas so he could also film scenes for a cameo appearance in the movie Ocean’s Eleven. Notwithstanding the altitude challenges, the actual fight itself took place at an odd time, 05:00 (SAST) on Sunday 22 April 200 in order to accommodate HBO’s significant United States-based audience at a reasonable hour on Saturday 21 April 2001. After Lewis was knocked out by Rahman, HBO commentator Larry Merchant said, “He just drowned in Ocean’s Eleven.”
