Iran has warned Donald Trump it’s prepared to teach him an “unforgettable lesson”. It’s after the US president warned he was considering “very strong options” after the state’s crackdown on anti-government protests.

What started as demonstrations over the dire economic situation has now grown into a mass movement. But what action will America take, and why?

BBC’s international editor Jeremy Bowen has the background.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce get married in New York City | BBC News

Published

on

Pop superstar Taylor Swift and American football player Travis Kelce have officially tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony officiated by comedian Adam Sandler.

The pair both donned Christian Dior, according to Swift’s longtime publicist, and elected to skip bridesmaids and groomsmen.

Instead, Swift’s brother Austin Swift served as her Man of Honour, while retired American footballer and brother of Travis, Jason Kelce, was the groom’s Best Man.

The event at Madison Square Garden shuttered one of Manhattan’s busiest corridors and brought out Hollywood’s A-list for what was likely the bash of the century.

A rare red weather warning is in place in the UK until 21:00 BST on Thursday.

It covers parts of southern England, as well as the Midlands and south Wales, with people in those areas warned there is a risk of serious illness or danger to life.

Southern England is forecast to see highs of around 37C on Wednesday – but could feel even hotter.

France, Spain and Italy have been the European countries hardest hit by the heatwave, with it expected to spread to the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany later this week.

Record-breaking temperatures in US and Europe heats up again | BBC News

Published

on

More than 165 million people across the US East Coast are sweltering under record temperatures as the Fourth of July holiday weekend gets underway.

The extreme heat will continue on Friday as the hottest spell of the year so far sends the mercury soaring to levels not seen, in some areas, in decades.

The heatwave could disrupt a busy weekend as US President Donald Trump hosts a celebration marking America’s 250th birthday and multiple World Cup matches take place outdoors.

It follows an unprecedented spell of early summer heat across Europe, with record highs across the continent.
