Anthony Hopkins says ‘enjoy life now, before its too late’ in exclusive interview | BBC News

One of Britain’s most iconic actors, Sir Anthony Hopkins, has spoken to the BBC’s Katie Razzall about his career highs and his personal lows.

In a broadcast exclusive interview, Hopkins said “life is tough, stop whinging about it all the time” and “enjoy it now before its too late.”

He also reflects on what it was like to lose his home to the Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025 and plays one of his own pieces on the piano.

The BBC has been shown inside Gaza for the first time since the ceasefire came into effect.

Israel took a group of journalists, including the BBC, into the area of the Strip occupied by Israeli forces.

In a visit which showed the destruction caused by over two years of war, no access to Palestinians was offered, or other areas of Gaza.

Military censorship laws in Israel mean that military personnel were shown our material before publication.

Footballer David Beckham receives knighthood | BBC News

Former England captain Sir David Beckham has been formally knighted for his services to football and British society.

The 50-year-old, who was named on King Charles’ Birthday Honours list earlier this year, was knighted by the King during a ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Sir David Beckham was joined by his wife, now Lady Victoria, and his parents Sandra and Ted at Windsor Castle.

“I couldn’t be prouder,” said Beckham. “People know how patriotic I am – I love my country.”

UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves has refused to rule out tax rises as she said she will make the “necessary choices” in her upcoming Budget.

She said “the world has thrown even more challenges our way” in the last 12 months and her Budget will be one of growth and fairness.

Reeves is expected to announce tax rises on 26 November – Labour had pledged not to hike income tax, VAT or National Insurance in its general election manifesto.

At least 90 dead as typhoon wreaks havoc in the Philippines | BBC News

At least 90 people have been killed while hundreds of thousands fled their homes as one of strongest typhoons this year ripped through the central Philippines, authorities say.

Typhoon Kalmaegi has flooded entire towns on the most populated central island of Cebu, where at least 49 of the fatalities were located.

Videos show people sheltering on rooftops, while cars and shipping containers have been swept through the streets.

The official death toll, which is likely to rise, includes six crew members of a military helicopter that crashed on Mindanao island, south of Cebu, after it was deployed to assist in relief efforts.
