on

Hong Kong has grounded hundreds of flights and shut schools and businesses as it braces for Super Typhoon Ragasa.

Some 370,000 people have also been evacuated from Guangdong province in southern China ahead of what is this year’s strongest storm.

Ragasa barrelled through parts of the Philippines’s northern provinces on Monday, forcing thousands to evacuate their homes.

China’s meteorological agency has called it the “King of Storms”, and Ragasa is expected to move towards northern Vietnam in the coming days, potentially affecting millions of people.

Denmark says ‘professional actor’ behind drone incursions over its airports | BBC News

Published

on

Denmark has said drones flown over its airports appear to be the work of a “professional actor” but there was no evidence of Russian involvement, after such activity disrupted its airspace for the second time in a week.

Aalborg airport was forced to shut down for several hours on Wednesday evening after green lights were spotted overhead, while Billund airport also briefly closed. Three smaller airports also reported drone activity.

On Monday, Copenhagen airport temporarily closed due to a drone incursion.

Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen told a news conference that the “hybrid attack” was part of a “systematic operation”, but said the devices had been launched locally.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In his speech, Netanyahu criticised the UK and France’s decision to recognise a Palestinian state, calling the move “sheer madness” adding that recognition by several other countries is “disgraceful”.

Directly addressing the hostages being held by Hamas, he said “we have not forgotten you – not even for a second… the people of Israel are with you”.

As he took to the stage, dozens of people filed out of the room in protest, while others applauded.

Netanyahu also said loudspeakers in Israel were broadcasting the speech into Gaza.
