The opening section of “Tome of Stars”, titled “Item 1: Anthesis”, comprises 21 poems that chronicle the emergence and flowering of a romantic relationship, structured around the botanical metaphor of anthesis, the period during which a flower blooms.

“Dance, Stars!” is the first song in every album and is an outlier in “Tome of Stars”. Unlike the other poems, it was not composed through conventional inspiration but assembled from a word-frequency analysis of the manuscript. After completing the first drafts, the poet examined the text with automated tools to uncover unconscious repetitions and verbal ticks. From the ranked list of words, a new challenge suggested itself in the poet’s mind: to fashion a poem by following the order of frequency while introducing only minimal grammatical adjustments.

What began as an artistic experiment under these constraints produced a poem that surprised even its creator. Despite its eccentric genesis, “Dance, Stars!” seemed to capture the essence of the collection in a compressed and distorted form, serving as a mirror and a parody of its language. The poet therefore placed it at the threshold of the book, as an Epigraph, where it functions as a playful yet telling distillation of themes that the subsequent sonnets will explore.
