Liberals Want Indefinite Government Assistance For Legacy Media

The courage to speak the truth is a virtue!

When a government knows it is standing on brittle feet, it looks for anything to sustain its stand and when it does, it ensures that everything within its power is done to maintain its support. That is what the Liberal party is looking to do with the legacy media.

Also, Trudeau has always been known to reward his cronies for doing the work that has benefited his government and political career, and this attitude of his has gotten him into multiple scandals, none of which he is truly remorseful of. So it could be said that the government and Justin Trudeau are seeking to repay the mainstream media for spreading the propaganda which has promoted his government in the eyes of Canadians.

Welcome to “First Page News 🤝

This week on the Front Page the panel of Tom Kerr, Chris Cook, Bill Barber and James Stevens is focused on the Dublin Racing Festival and Willie Mullins’ extraordinary eight-Grade 1 haul at the festival.

The panel also debates what makes the DRF so popular with racegoers and what other tracks can do to draw in more proper racing fans.

Bill, the Racing Post’s industry editor, gives the latest on the affordability checks debate scheduled for later this year. You can send your MP a letter urging them to attend via https://racingdebate.eaction.org.uk/email

Finally, we look at the Milton Harris case, in which the now former trainer was found to be “not a fit and proper person” to hold a licence.

The Viking Colony That Vanished After 450 Years

Published

on

Why did the Vikings of Greenland disappear?

The Viking colony in Greenland survived for around 450 years after Erik the Red established the Norse settlements around 985 AD, but by the 15th century the Greenland Vikings had vanished. This is the mystery of Norse Greenland: the Viking settlement, the Little Ice Age, the walrus ivory trade and what happened to the last Norse people in Greenland.

The Vikings farmed Greenland for centuries.

They built farms, churches and even a cathedral. They raised livestock, hunted seals and traded walrus ivory with Europe.

Then the records stopped.

The last known written record from the Greenland Norse is a wedding at Hvalsey in 1408.

After that, silence.

There is no famous final battle. No enormous massacre site. No surviving account explaining exactly where the last Greenland Vikings went.

So what happened?

The Little Ice Age made farming and life in Greenland increasingly difficult. The Norse also depended on European trade, particularly valuable walrus ivory. As European trade networks changed, Greenland became increasingly isolated.

Rather than disappearing overnight, the evidence may point towards a gradual decline, with people leaving Greenland for Iceland, Norway or elsewhere until the Norse settlements eventually disappeared.

But the exact story remains debated.

In this History Mystery investigation, Alexandra follows the evidence behind the disappearance of the Greenland Vikings and asks what really happened to the last Norse settlers of Greenland.

Why did the Vikings leave Greenland?

Did climate change destroy the colony?

Did the collapse of the walrus ivory trade make Greenland impossible to sustain?

Or did the final Vikings simply leave quietly, one family at a time?

The answer may never be completely known.

And that’s what makes the disappearance of Norse Greenland one of history’s greatest mysteries.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT WHY VIKINGS LEFT GREENLAND

Why did the Vikings disappear from Greenland?

The exact reason remains debated. Climate change, worsening farming conditions, changing trade networks, declining walrus ivory demand and increasing isolation from Europe may all have contributed.

When did the Vikings arrive in Greenland? Erik the Red established the first Norse settlements around 985 AD.

How long did the Vikings live in Greenland?

The Norse settlements survived for roughly 450 years, from the late 10th century until the 15th century.

When did the Greenland Vikings disappear?

The exact date is unknown. The last known written record is a wedding at Hvalsey in 1408.

Did the Little Ice Age cause the Vikings to disappear?

It likely made conditions harder, particularly for farming and livestock, but climate change alone may not explain the disappearance.

Where did the Greenland Vikings go?

Their ultimate destination is unknown. Migration to Iceland, Norway or elsewhere is one possible explanation.

Did Vikings really live in Greenland?

Yes. Archaeologists have found extensive evidence of Norse farms, churches and settlements in Greenland.

Who was Erik the Red?

Erik the Red was the Norse explorer traditionally credited with establishing the first Norse settlements in Greenland.

Why was walrus ivory important?

Walrus ivory was a valuable European commodity and an important part of Greenland’s trade economy.

Was Greenland abandoned by the Vikings?

The Norse settlements eventually disappeared, but historians and archaeologists continue to debate exactly how and why.

I’m approaching 60 and I finally have the perfect desk – it’s a ‘room of my own’ & it means so much

Published

Welcome to another midlife vlog, and the story of my desk. This is a particularly special one for me because, in many ways, this desk represents the foundation of so much hope and yearning. It’s a vintage piece, painted a dramatic Prussian blue, and it once belonged to quite the rare bird — someone who worked in fashion and now runs an art and antiques business.
It was bought for me by yet another another rare bird, who probably doesn’t realise just how much this gift may have changed my life. That sounds terribly heavy, I know — but it really isn’t, it’s the truth.

Anyway, here is how I pulled it together, I’ve changed a little of it since this video (which I finished filming earlier today lol). I hope you enjoy watching this.

And thank you to all of you, at all times, but on this occasion particularly to the RB who selflessly made this happen for me.

Also in this video, I visit a friend and have a drink in a beautiful rose garden (yes, roses are still blooming despite the heat) and Quincy makes her presence felt…
