Chinese Companies Avoid Taiwan Amid China Taiwan Tensions

The effects of China’s military drills on the Taiwan Strait and the increased tensions between the United States and China over the island nation of Taiwan seem to be kicking in, with the latest development concerning companies in China. In a move to save their businesses and prevent the cancel culture from shutting them down, companies in China have decided to distance themselves from Taiwan in a show of solidarity and loyalty to China.

There have been fears from these companies that the Chinese citizens would fail to patronize them and see them as supporters of the U.S interference with Taiwan, and this prompted them to take such a stance. Chinese social media users have since come out to attack companies and celebrities whom they felt were unpatriotic to the Chinese nation and supportive of Taiwan. This is what has kept company managers on their toes as they are overly keen to show that they are not supportive of Taiwan.

Unfortunately for some of these companies, it was too late to show the Chinese population that they were on the side of their country. The candy bar brand, Snickers, was subject to this public firing by the Chinese social media users, and this forced them into making an apology. The bone of contention, in that case, was that they launched a product that was viewed as recognizing Taiwan as a country. Another company that fell prey to the Chinese over the tensions between the U.S and China was Foshan Haitian Flavoring and Food Co Limited.

On Saturday, the Chinese company issued a lengthy apology to the public for a deed which was frowned upon by the Chinese population. The problem here was that an employee of theirs had made a private post that celebrated Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. The said post generated a lot of social media attention, and with that, condemnation from the Chinese. The company reported that it had fired the supposed employee who was unidentified.
