American mercenaries hired by UAE to kill in Yemen | BBC News

Published

on

American mercenaries, hired by the UAE to kill in Yemen, have spoken candidly on camera for the first time in an investigation by BBC Arabic.

At a time when Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping have highlighted the international dimensions of the Yemeni conflict, the investigation also reveals how US mercenaries trained Emirati officers to kill the UAE’s political enemies in Yemen.

These extra-judicial killings, conducted in the name of counter-terrorism, started in 2015 and continue to this day.

With all the confidence these guys have spewing supposedly classified info, am made to believe their bosses are at the helm of the global political scene. In the eyes of their masters, these guys are risking it all to go where no sane military can go under the guise of fighting the so called war on terrorism.

The United States imported roughly 456,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Saudi Arabia in 2022. Figures have notably decreased since 2000, while crude oil imports of Canada have increased in the same time period. Dec 13, 2023.

The groundwork of Aden Refinery Company (initially know as British Petroleum Company) was started on November 1, 1952.
It was originally designed to refine about 5 million tons of crude oil every year. The refinery was inaugurated by her majesty Queen Elezabeth –II on July, 1954. Subsequently, the Aden Refinery was linked to Aden Bunkering facilities in Aden harbor through 19 miles long pipelines to supply bunkering fuels to the ships visiting Aden harbour.
The refinery was later upgraded to 8 million tons capacity, in the sixties.
In May 1977 B.P. handed over the refinery to the government of Yemen. Since that date the refinery operates under the name of Aden Refinery Company (ARC). In accordance of law number 15 for 1977.

Port of Aden – OIL HARBOUR
Aden Refinery Company and the oil harbour were constructed in the mid-1950’s to receive and refine oil from other countries and provide the various grades of fuel needed by ships bunkering at the port, underpinning Aden’s growing success as a ‘middle distance’ bunkering point between Europe and the sub-Continent and Far East.
Aden Refinery Company (ARC) handled around 12 million MT of crude and refined products up to 2014, with oil products used in Yemen and exported by tankers to other ports in the country. Imports in 2014 were 7.5 million MT and exports 4.5 million MT. From 2015 onwards, ARC has been handling imports and exports of refined products only..

Yemen's Aden oil refinery resumed operations, after shutting down for more than a year due to political unrest…

Is it Time to Tax the Robots? | BBC News

Published

Join the AI Decoded team as we examine Sam Altman’s vision for an era of artificial superintelligence. The Open AI CEO is calling for a new kind of social contract — an “AI New Deal” — arguing that unprecedented technological power will require rethinking how the benefits are shared, including ideas such as wealth redistribution and even taxes on robots.

Also in the programme, presenter Christian Fraser is joined by leading AI thinker Gary Marcus and Oxford University robotics expert Professor Sara Bernardini to explore what a future shaped by autonomous machines could mean for work, safety and society.

Plus, tech reporter Lara Lewington meets 19‑year‑old student Maeve O’Neil, whose smart ring detected a life‑threatening health issue before it was too late.

Has Trump’s feud with Pope Leo crossed a line with Catholics? | Global News Podcast

Published

on

There is continuing criticism from Catholics around the world, as US President Donald Trump’s feud with Pope Leo escalates. Trump said Pope Leo XIV was “weak”, and posted an AI-generated image of himself on Truth Social, which many people believe depicted him as Jesus.

The image, which has now been deleted, showed Trump appearing to heal a sick man in a hospital bed. He said it showed him as a doctor. The image post came hours after the president posted a lengthy message criticising the pontiff, who is a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operation in Iran.

Italy’s prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, has said Donald Trump’s remarks are ”unacceptable”. Meloni, who is Catholic and heads a right-wing coalition government, is a close ally of Trump.

Pope Leo said that he has “no fear” of the Trump administration. There are more than 70 million Catholics in the US – many of whom are swing voters. We ask the BBC’s religion editor, Aleem Maqbool, if Donald Trump’s row with the pope has dealt lasting damage to his Catholic support.

BBC investigation finds lawyers coaching fake LGBTQ+ asylum claims | BBC News

Published

on

A shadow industry of law firms and advisers is charging thousands of pounds to help migrants pretend to be gay in order to stay in the UK, the BBC has found.

In the first part of a major undercover investigation, we reveal how migrants whose visas are due to run out are being given fake cover stories and instructed in how to obtain fabricated evidence, including supporting letters, photographs and medical reports.

They then apply for asylum claiming to be gay and in fear for their lives if they return to Pakistan or Bangladesh.

In response to our findings, the Home Office said: “Anyone found trying to exploit the system will face the full force of the law, including removal from the UK.”
