It's called gratin dauphinois, a classic familial french dish. You wouldn't use those aromatic herbs in it. The secret is to chose potatoes that will 'suck' the milk and the cream, so you don't have hard potatoes in a dairy juice, some people pre cook the potatoes a little bit in water or steam, also you want it a bit more crustier compare to the one in this video, so you have a nice contrast between the crust on top and the softness of the potatoes inside (basically you put the grill on at the end of the cooking till you have a nice brown crust)

Coming back to the old episodes and i forgot about Barry's douche pencil beard. It gave a good laugh. Such a difference twenty years ago was. Or so it feels after 2020.

Is that supposed to be a Gratin Dauphinois ? As a Frenchman living in the Dauphiné I am deeply upset andgravely offended by your attempts at being insulting to my culture, that's even worse than the Payella-Burrito incident against Spanish inquisition. Please keep it to Roosbeefs andfish-heads in a pie with jelly.

I made this yesterday for part of Christmas lunch, had to just go with gruyere and emmentaler as we don't really have many of the special french cheese options in Australia. Thankfully this video exists as the online instructions were lacking in spots, but it turned out great! Quite different to a usual potato bake we make here.

Happily served 7 as a side

What’s wrong with the colour balance? All the whites look green, it doesn’t make it very appetising looking.
