Cyber Attack: Ransomware causing chaos globally – BBC News
Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Is this AI’s moment of truth? | BBC News
A year ago, artificial intelligence was being sold as something close to science fiction — a technology that could transform society, cure disease, even reshape the global economy.
Today, the tone is changing. The companies leading the revolution are racing to the stock market — chasing billions in investment — while quietly confronting a much harder reality: AI is expensive, unpredictable, and far from profitable.
At the same time, some of the very people building this technology are warning we may be going too fast — even calling for a global pause.
And beyond Silicon Valley, a different story is emerging: growing public anxiety, political backlash, and the rise of what some are calling anti-AI populism.
So is AI entering its most pivotal moment yet — caught between financial pressure, technological risk, and political resistance?
AI Decoded Presenter Christian Fraser is joined by Financial Times AI Editor Madhumita Murgia, Thematic Strategist at Deutsche Bank Research Adrian Cox and Richard Coffin, Host of popular investing podcast ‘ The Plain Bagel’.

The rouble fell by 30% overnight. That basically means Putin's $250 billion is now worth $175 billion. Ouch!! And my message to this arse? Your wealth is gonna fall even more this week!!

Russian should learn not to worship one person. It is wrong to give much power into one man's hand. It is wrong to allow a president to stay in power for more than 8 years, because he will go crazy. Licking a president's butt is expensive pleasure.

This is an example of the financial-currency terrorist war ,as part of the cold war declared by
the US against Russia ,with the complicity of the western bankers' lobbies ,the Opec oil exporting
countries like Saudi Arabia and the other gulf states, willing to bring Russia to it's knees ;
but why ? The US declares cold and economic war on Russia to isolate it from joining the
agonizing €uropean Union ; therefore to stay the unique super-power ,even on the expence
of the €uropean allies ; however ,for Russia , it's only one more failed conspiracy that will
blow back against the desperate Westerns .

'It's what Russians have always done' – What was that? О_о Do you think it is a good approach? It only points out the horrible and mocking attitude towards us.
Likewise, that what we 'have always done' was not without your 'help'. Do you think paying out all Soviets' debts including even Lend-Lease, renting fucking own Crimean naval base for 100 million dollars per year, being isolated, and moreover, sanctioned, is a good thing to the economy? Bah! You must stop pretending to be 'good guys' and begin making indeed good relationships.

I remember the internet was mocking fun at Obama and the EU for "drawing red lines in sand" earlier this year… It seems that this lines are starting to take effect.

50% of Russia's economy is energy exports, oil and gas. The oligarchs control the commodities and they support Putin. This is hurting the power behind the throne and they are being hurt badly. Putin is increasingly isolated and behaving as a megalomaniac whose fanatical supporters are a fascist Russian underclass prepared to invade Russia's neighbors in the hope of regaining the glory the Soviet empire once had. This is a recipe for a major war. On the plus side, I can partake in bating Ivan-the-Rooshkie, a favorite activity with hilarious results – just think of all the Russian brides coming at a deep discount due to the fall of the rouble.
