Fish and chips. It might be considered a classic, but i would never consider it good.

"How did this get stressful?" says the man who chose salmin and pineapple for fish and chips

not gonna lie this pass it on kinda reminds me why barry is always the problem in pass it ons. " I want a baked alaska. I want A Ragu. I want a Cloud Egg" but the moment someone else does something like fried salmon which is pretty good and in some areas are really good with great shops. He throws a fit and acts like a toddler who didnt get his way. despite the fact he couldve put the salmon back and grab cod. just kinda puts me off watching his turns

I don’t like that James is passive aggressive towards Barry by making a pineapple curry sauce knowing Barry is allergic to pineapple and then throwing Barry under the bus for “choosing” the salmon when he was the one to pick it. I don’t blame Barry at all for being upset and frustrated with the dish even though it worked out.

In fairness to Barry, if the prompt said fish and chips he could have replaced the salmon with some other white fish, but if the prompt had said salmon or salmon and potatoes or something like that, switching out the fish would have cost them the whole challenge, and he had no idea what the prompt was at the time.

James leaving Barry salmon instead of a traditional white fish made the final plate unique and exciting that ended up in a pass which is a nice viewing experience amongst the many relays which fail that, although hilarious and chaotic to watch, it’s always nice seeing the guys succeed in their challenge and celebrate a victory rather than being forlorn because they collectively failed often due to ‘too many cooks spoiling the broth’ as the saying goes. But James going with the untraditional salmon which Baz opted to use to then have the guys pinpoint on him for using but then congratulating James for its inclusion on the dish to wind Barry up as much as humanly possible was absolutely brilliant 😂😂 knowing he was in a bad mood and using that as inspiration to get the audience laughing was brilliant because it’s rare Baz is anything other than a happy, uplifting, positive and energetic entity so seeing him being the polar opposite with the others adding to it was a moment for the memory books and seeing his face get redder with James’ congratulations for choosing salmon and simultaneously exert the vibe of someone who wants nothing more than for the ground to swallow him there and then when being slated for choosing salmon was brilliant 😂😂

Baz being in such a bad mood which gave the guys an opportunity to create humour from by making light of it shows how great their friendship is. All the jokes were made in good jest and had no victim, or only had a small impact on the person the jokes were directed towards and that’s the best kind of comedy that is becoming increasingly rarer as time passes. There was no malice behind the jokes and only came about because the guys bounced off of the energy in the room to make the audience laugh which was humorous to watch but simultaneously wholesome to see, but I do agree with Baz that using salmon in place of a white fish for a classic is a bold choice. It’s too oily to be deep fried so the grease is too much and a white fish like cod, hake or plaice work perfectly because they don’t become greasy and soggy which salmon runs the risk of doing

Hope in the years since this the "normals" have realized that you should "think out of the box" when comes to things. Sticking to just white fish is boring when comes to things. Yeah its the norm, yeah its usually what you just do due to what white fish is but there's just so much nicer fish out there that yes seems like "is wrong" but will work if done right/carefully.

As much as Barry hated the fact it was salmon, it was his full on breading it twice that was what helped the fish work. Might be a oily fish already but the level of flavor it has combined with a nice coating like that = some of the best breaded fish for things at times. Might not be a chef myself, though been cooking for 2+ decades, but do know that things that look wrong or not right can work.

    January 17, 2024 at 6:50 pm

i mean yes technically James left the salmon out without batter and seasoning with the thought that Barry could've swapped it if he's not comfortable with it. but he still misled Barry so… more than that, i feel bad for Barry with the pineapple curry. He couldn't even taste it 😂

I am not sure why Barry panics so much unless it is for comic effect and entertainment (it is entertaining). Cooking should be enjoyable, not a freak out session. Turned out well though. I wish I could do this as a job with mates full time.

I think James did well here I would have prefered Cod myself tho, James did make it clear that it was fish and chips. I would have liked see one of them attempt a battered sausage 😀 haven't finished the episide yet but I just know I won't.

The fact that barry complain so much about the fish and not change it. Then remembering previous pass it on episodes that he also just adds new elements to the dishes despite whatever is on the board/hob… this is so unlikely of you barry

    January 17, 2024 at 6:50 pm

I think James was being a bad friend, here. If you know someone is allergic to something, you take that into consideration. You don't just shrug it off.
