Bitrex is pure evil. They use it in many stop-chewing sprays for dogs and if you get it on your hands, no amount of soap and water will get rid of it. If I remember correctly the only thing to counteract it was a strong base (as opposed to acid) like Kaboom cleaner. (Obviously don't ingest it!) It tastes like really bitter hairspray.

As someone with chronic migraines: brain freeze is absolutely the closest you'll get, only for hours or days and any stimuli makes the pain 10x stronger for seconds or minutes
Edit: use salt my dudes to override bitterness. Binds to the same receptors

We use bitrex for fit test solutions on respirators and on my first one I did a test and went to McDonald's and didn't know that it waw on my hands and ate fries tasting it

Those artificial sweeteners are more bitter than sweet. I would have hated the first challenge.
"8,000 times sweeter than sugar" to a lab rat maybe. They're all cat dookie and marketing hooplah. Even stevia, the plant based sweetener, is just bittersweet, and the more you ingest, it just gives more bitterness. We grew and sold stevia at a nursery i worked at.
"No off-tastes as a sweetener…"
Really i wish Ebbers would have made it clearer that he was just reading marketing copy, because those artificial sweeteners taste incredibly chemical-y, and as a chef, he of course knows that there is a huge difference between artificial sweeteners and actual sweet flavors.
I don't like being a Gary, but it comes off as either insulting to the audience, or purposeful deception when i hear lines like those above coming from someone who knows better than to believe what he is saying.
I'm sorry to be a Gary, but i don't like hearing marketingadvertising material presented as the truth.
If those artificial sweeteners were even half as good as their marketing BS claims, then they would have replaced sugar in all our food.
Absinthe is good prepared with burned sugar and water, but the alcohol % is so high, that the Thujone is barely noticeable through the liquor. Until you decide to cut your ear off like Van Gogh
Fun fact: Nintendo puts Bitrex in the plastic of their Switch cartridges, so your babies won't want to eat them.

I follow a keto diet for health reasons and this is not a good sugar alternative! Love you boys and watching you eat this was not ok. My choice is pure stevia but Iām sure others think itās satan. I cannot tell you how much you have helped my cooking and my family calls me a groupie but I have learned so much. Ben is my fav lol but Iām a thinker so I get him. Thank you so much. Getting your cookbooks for some of my family this year for Xmas.

If you've ever chewed a caffeine tablet because waiting for it to dissolve in your stomach would take too long then you know exactly how horrid a strong bittering agent can be. While not as aggressive as something specifically made for the purpose, caffeine is a very potent bittering agent.
