Climate change fighting technology ‘should be ramped up’, report urges – BBC News

Published

on

Climate change technology which removes CO2 from our atmosphere must be urgently ramped up, leading experts say in a new report.

Scientists say big cuts in CO2 emissions won’t be enough to limit global warming – and nature alone will not remove enough of it from the air.

“To limit warming to 2C or lower, we need to accelerate emissions reductions. But the findings of this report are clear: we also need to increase carbon removal too,” says lead author Dr Steve Smith, from Oxford University.

The report said that to reduce future global temperatures there needs to be investment in developing technological solutions now.

Until emissions and removals are balanced – so called “net-zero” – global temperatures are predicted to rise.

The climate has been changing 14,000 years and will continue until we reach 3rd planet from the sun climate. If you wish to slow it down then you can do that by not being here. Especially the BBC a major polluter.

During 2011-2018, the world spent US$3.6 trillion on climate change projects – 55% of which was spent on solar and wind projects.  Despite this wind and solar energy still produced only 3% of world energy consumption in the year 2018.  Not only are they expensive and ineffective, the review found that these projects sometimes contribute to problems they were designed to solve.  Both wind and solar farms are themselves causing local climate change. And, they have a devastating effect on biodiversity

The only reason why the insecure society listen to a person like him is because of low self esteem and low self worth, poverty mindset, waiting to be Saved. He uses climate change and ozone pollution as an Alibi. The planet earth is safe and fine no matter how humans behave, everything in nature is balanced, enough organic foods and resources a million times over, nature makes sure of that, man's computer generated world moves society because they just believe a man in a suit and a tie. Because I made software doesn't mean I know what the entire planet needs. If the planet was so bad we all would have died the after a few years of pollution, the planet has a natural recycling system, everything made here poison or not is naturally recycled, that's why the earth is 98% water.

I strongly believe that climate change threat was NOT caused by human activities. The main cause very much can be derived from Mother Nature, far beyond the totality of human wrongdoings.

After communists and the left-wing activists lost their momentum in the 1990s in the aftermath of the breakup of the USSR, they just luckily have got this kind of “eco-friendly or dressed-up themes” as their lucrative businesses.

How about this argument: the increase of CO2 in the air is straightly good for growth of plants, especially agricultural products, it’s going to be a big help for food shortages around the world. Don’t slash its positive side.

  18. @morningrays9899

    January 13, 2024 at 9:17 am

Nuclear power can meet the world’s energy demands with Zero CO2 emissions, but:

Do you really believe the US, would let go the Petro Dollar, with a debt of $31 trillions, almost one third of the world’s GDP?

Do you really believe Russia, and powerful oil countries and oil cartels,  which are heavily dependent on fossil fuel sales will let you move away?

They will burn the Hell out of  Europe and China before they’ll ever do.

Do you really believe you, you have the courage to stand against tyranny and refuse to live a life of humiliations? Then Do it.

The elites are Bored of climate change now. They know its obviously BS. They've moved on.

  22. @morningrays9899

    January 13, 2024 at 9:17 am

To meet energy demands and become net zero, money is better spent on nuclear power than DAC.

Then, by protecting and restoring  peatlands, not only nature would do the job of removing the CO2; but at the same time, we would be protecting biodiversity, which is by far more important than decarbonizing

Renewable energy not only they are not a reliable source of energy, they take up a much needed space, need costly maintenance, get destroyed by hail or wind storms; but they are detrimental to the environment in terms of mining.

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

New explosions near Iranian port cities, says state media | BBC News

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.

It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.

The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.

Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.
