I watch so many videos of experts ranting about their topics that I have to remind myself that your little informational bits about each food are researched specifically for the video.

So while Canadian dollars can't be compared 1:1 with the pound due to conversion rates, looking strictly at the median income in numbers, the numbers are pretty close to equal, 35k pounds to 40k CAD.

A bog standard air chilled chicken here is $15-20. You CAN get them on sale for closer to $8, but that's the normal price. The higher end organic free range chickens are in the $35 range. Then if you look at organic, free range, local chicken from a butcher or farmer's market, it's coming in at $50 per chicken. I can't imagine what this pretentious chicken would cost us.

Croissant Cube looks about twice (thrice) as tall as it should be -tempted to do my own now (possibly from just roll)

You need to try Iberico as a steak! It’s honestly SUBLIME and makes much more of a difference than in bacon form. The price also isn’t too bad, you can get it from around 30€ per kilo. We often have it on the barbecue in the summer with just a sprinkle of salt. You won’t want to eat a different kind of pork ever again.

Chickens mainly eat insects with a bit of seed/grain. Feeding them all grains is why they lack flavor in industrial sized farming. To take that even more extreme is exceptionally pretentious. If you've ever had a farmed raised chicken that's NOT given supplemental grains, they're SO much more flavorful.

I wonder if the croissant cube would make a good custardy french toast… 🙂

Jamie missed a better Dad Joke than 'a croiss-section'!
Ben said, 'I really want to see a cross-section, may we?'
Jamie should've said, 'Mais, oui!!' 😂
Don't mind me, I'm just making myself giggle

Sorry can't go in a fry up then it's automatically pretentious.

A 55 Pound (money cost) chicken is outragious, and pretentious as fuck.

I wish they'd tried the chicken breast. I've had heritage turkeys that were awesome (and not $70 a pound). Dark meat is usually my favorite but on the heritage birds the breasts really stood out. The dark meat was very similar to typical turkey — just slightly gamier. The breast meat really was impressive. Not gamey (I don't mind game meats) just the best turkey breasts I've tasted. Intensely turkey.

The chicken was definitely pretentious. On a different episode please sample a French Bresse breed chicken next to standard grocery store chicken. The meat is supposed to be superior but is it worth the price difference?

I’m coming to all of these great videos very late in the game – but I don’t want fatty bacon and calling it Iberico and telling me these black pigs – which in China might just be a regular pig spray painted ted black – eat only acorns and are “loved” is a lot of pretentious nonsense. I’m starting to get the feeling that you are all too invested in being “foodies” and far to easily sucked in by the premium marketing that packages the product.

The black pigs of Jejudo, South Korea are delicious!

That croissant bread looked great, but cmon, what were those monstrosities you made with it? Eat it like a normal human, not like Epic Meal Time.

I have a bit an issue. I find similarities between Duck Foie gras with the force feeding of an animal just like Veal in beef, and now the force feeding to fatten up chickens. I personally find that process as unethical and inhumane. I have butchered both domesticated and wild game but we never allowed the animal to suffer through the process. Fattening up any animal intentionally will always fall under animal cruelty in my opinion.

    January 11, 2024 at 11:35 am

The actual name of the pigs used to make Iberico anything is a belota black pig. They are some of the very best cared-for animals on the planet next to something that's eventually going to be sold as A5 wagyu beef.

    Pretentious, some of them ridiculous.

I want French Toast made from the croissant bread.
