North Korea says it tested ‘most powerful’ missile to date – BBC News

Published

on

North Korea has said it tested a new solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile – its “most powerful” missile to date.

State media hailed Thursday’s launch, which led to a brief evacuation order in Japan, a “miraculous success”.

Solid-fuel missiles can be fired more quickly than liquid-fuel ones, making them harder to intercept. But analysts say they are not without downsides.

South Korea maintains that the North will need more time to develop a fully operational solid-fuel ICBM.

When the Americans are testing their nuclear missiles, nobody can tell them what to do. So why do they have a problem with North Korea?

  13. @AutisticThinker

    January 8, 2024 at 10:03 am

Fun fact about solid fueled rockets, their fuel burn is fixed thus so is their range… If you don't measure the fuel and point them just perfectly they probably wont hit the desired target.

Why when other people do something western people see as threat?
No country in the world concerns what other do other than western countries.

Putin is a great world leader, threat.
Russia beating the hell out of Ukraine in Bakhmut, Ukraine, threat.
    Sanctions Russia, threat.
    China is rising, threat.
    India buying Russian oil, threat.
Ukraine is weak like US who allies NATO just to fight one country, threat.
Russia is bigger and powerful, not a single western country can fight Russia one on one, threat.
Wagner army is stronger than US army, threat.

A whole lot of unease and unrest in the world, and the western world is playing such a big part stirring things up that are creating closer alliances in the eastern block because of the threat of western expansion, how it seems anyway, even on home ground there’s major troubles as ordinary people kick back 🤷‍♂️

As long as North Kora has nukes, no country will dare to attack them. Every country that has given up its nuclear program has been attacked. Iraq, Libya and Ukraine gave up nukes, they got attacked and their countries destroyed.

There's no question that the DPRK is a dictatorship. Even then, pursuing nuclear weapons is a smart move. If South Korea and Japan feel threatened by the DPRK nukes (an irrational fear because the DPRK would never attack them unless attacked first), let them build their own nukes.

I love how his daughter is front n centre with every launch.
I wonder if she understands the slightest misshap ie. Accidental trajectory landing in the wrong area would spell the end of NK.
And Japan are a force to be respected.
    They have no reverse gear.
    And the Samarai will prevail.

The NK missiles haven't actually fallen on the Japanese soil so far. Are they deliberately avoiding the successful fall? Are they aware the war will start if they hit Japan? So far, the NK is intimidating and threatening Japan and the US. Meanwhile, the US must allow Japan to strengthen the defence capabilities. The situation is totally different now from the WWII.

‘Is Anthropic the new Dr Frankenstein?’ | BBC News

Published

AI Decoded speaks to leading tech podcaster Scott Galloway about the growing controversy surrounding Anthropic’s latest AI model, Claude Mythos.

During testing, the system uncovered thousands of hidden vulnerabilities in the software underpinning most of the world’s computers — prompting Anthropic to decide it was too dangerous to release.

The company says Mythos can outperform humans at certain hacking and cyber‑security tasks, raising fresh concerns among regulators, lawmakers and financial institutions about the risks to global digital infrastructure.

Also on the show, we reveal how US students are changing their majors at university in order to ‘AI proof’ their future careers and how nearly half of Gen Z would like to turn back the clock to the late 90’s before AI was even a thing.

Joining Christian Fraser is the BBC’s AI correspondent Marc Cieslak and AI Decoded co-host Priya Lakhani.
