The triple lock timebomb and why UK pensions are more at risk than ever before…

In this week’s Chopper’s Political Podcast, Christopher Hope is joined by Tom Harwood and Katherine Forster to examine the growing debate around the UK state pension and the “triple lock.”
With Reform UK now joining other major parties in backing the policy, the discussion explores why the triple lock remains politically untouchable, despite rising concerns over its long-term cost. The panel breaks down how the system works, why it was introduced, and how it has helped reduce pensioner poverty, while also raising questions about fairness between generations.
They also look at the mounting financial pressures facing the UK, including the rising cost of pensions, slow economic growth, and an ageing population. Could the triple lock become unsustainable in the future? And if so, what alternatives might be considered?

It irritates me a bit to see perfectly healthy young people claiming benefits and visiting food banks, yeah times are hard but there is work out there.
Get a bit of dignity and find work 2 or 3 jobs if necessary. Your parents did.

And you have Mental Health Trusts such as MPFT having Awards Nights (next one 29th June 2023 at Stoke on Trent Town Hall), 3 course meal, disco etc, etc for hundreds of staff in Teams nominated for awards at tax payers expense. Awards for what? Not treating people in 2020/2021, DNARs on vulnerable people, sitting in their homes "working" terrified to see people. Disgusting really.

Is this a food bank? Looks more like some kind of community kitchen setup. Food banks traditionally are donated tins and other non perishable items that are donated to people in need for them to take home and use themselves which I thought required some kind of referral. I don't know the situation with this place but they're cooking for the community using fresh produce which leads me to think that maybe it's more of a food waste reduction scheme of some kind which is very different. In these places excess food is donated by supermarkets when it is about to expire and would otherwise be thrown away. These places receive huge quantities of perishable items. I recently spoke to a volunteer who told me that after Christmas they were given 50+ turkeys that had been slaughtered for no reason and would otherwise be discarded as rubbish. Food reduction schemes are usually free to anyone who wants it on that day. Food banks are for people to plan their own meals at their own pace with what is donated by customers. I can understand why volunteers at food reduction schemes might prefer to give the produce to the most desperate people, but the main aim is to use the food up quickly and to be honest, I doubt many of the people who use them are super rich either. I don't know but this report sounds like it could be misleading.

As a pensioner on only £600 a month, I DON'T NEED TO USE FOOD BANKS, I run a car and I pay £200 a month council tax.
Too many people are scroungers, and don't even get me started on crowd funding.

Steadying inflation??
It has taken four months to fall from 11.2% to 10.1%.
It has been above 10% since midsummers day last year.
Food prices are up 17%.

My garden birds are perfectly capable of hunting/finding their own food. Things like worms, grubs, seeds , but as soon as l put out my stale loaf or bought seeds from the supermarket they will stop foraging. The lesson is, free is easy!

Inflation is cumulative. Prices aren’t going down, they just slowed slightly from going up so rapidly. Even if inflation was zero by next week, prices would remain at present levels.
