It would be really interesting to see this challenge recreated in different grocery stores and different cities. It's amazing how access to affordable fresh food can vary.

this is probably Mike's worst episode i've seen,
he usually does at least decent, this was just catastrophe after catastrophe ._.

I'd have been super cheeky with ground pork and taco seasoning, cheddar, tomatoes, lettuce, taco shells, yellow corn chips – basically made taco meat which is used in tacos, natchos & taco salad

Mike is adorable, but he is not a multi-tasker. Bless his heart!

I see Mike has been using the expensive toaster. 😂

One thing I am loving about the app is that since i'm in US, i finally get to use my food scale so much more often. Before it would die between uses.

I also love the "take this time to do some washing up".

  9. @Robin2152

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

You can save burned toast by scraping it on a grater. It'll scratch off the burnt surface.

    I adore Mike.

No need to pierce a potato before baking in the microwave. Just use a "microwave potato bag." Basically I took a pair of old jeans (there was a good, large piece of the leg) and a cotton tee shirt to make one. Cut a long rectangle of both pieces. Lay the outside of the jeans on the outside of the layer of the jean material and the cotton tee. Fold over the two short ends and hem each one separately. Now fold in thirds so the cotton is showing and sew the two long ends. You basically have a what looks like a very small pillow cover. Turn inside out. Now take two potatoes and wash. DO NOT DRY and do NOT pierce the skin. YEAH I know this goes against everything you've ever heard about baking potatos but don't pierce the skins. Microwave on high for three minutes. Turn over and microwave again for another three minutes. Depending on your size of potatoes, you may need to microwave again, one minute at a time, until the potatoes are soft when you squeeze them. Once you learn your microwave's total cooking time, divide by two and that is how long to cook each side.

Poor Mike said his steak sandwich was no good, but Barry never put it down. Looked good to me.

This channel has fantastic content, but has to be an all time great entertaining video. Way to take one on the chin and be a good sport mike. Good on you. Much love from the states.

I didn’t realize garlic had sugar in it until I logged it in my CarbManager app and it showed there’s 1 carb for just 1 clove! Doesn’t sound like much, but for something that’s just a flavor and not substance to fill you up, there’s definitely a give and take lol.

  21. @SonOfMuta

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

8:56 "rocket"…😂🤣 that's not the name of an herb. It's arugula

  22. @Amythebard2

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

You must make two portions of food for £24 […] its going to be so hard. Hun you can buy a weeks worth of food for that if you are smart.

  23. @jf76

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

Challenge. A two ingredient dish. Salt and pepper additions allowed because you know, flavour is important. Easy, quick, simple, delicious.

  24. @PaleGirl

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

Did Barry really go to Waitrose? 🙄

  25. @totallybritishinmtymx7717

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

Why do you show the ponced up versions of the dishes at the end of each challenge instead of how the guys actually cooked them?

  26. @finn1666

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

this is why we love you, mike 🥹❤️

  27. @patmaurer8541

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

Here's a solid trick for burnt toast, especially if it's high spots and edges like this: hold a slice in each hand and rub them together. It works! Clap them to get out the 'dust'; re-butter and serve. 😀

  28. @mikibv8007

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

by far the best episode of the 3. I'm crying.

  29. @jurgenweimann3627

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

In hindsight, Jamie doing this with 24£ and giving he did enough with every meal for 3 portions is greatest

  30. @raideurng2508

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

    A proper Catagory 5 Huttlestorm.
I would of just bought a little thing of mayo for next to nothing and mixed in various stuff when needed. That would of saved loads of time and annoyance.

  31. @susanwills4723

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

I think Mike’s effort was good I would eat all of them and steak can never be over cooked if it’s still pink it should be in a paddock

  32. @LionkingCMSL

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

A Philadelphia, PA area resident here. Regarding the cheesesteak sandwich, the steak was way too thick. It should have been almost paper thin, like a minute steak, and cooked well done. An authentic Philly Cheesesteak uses Italian rolls, but you could use baguettes instead. The topping usually is just fried onions. Some people, like myself, like to top it off with a bit of Heinz ketchup.

I hope all of you can make it to the U.S. at some point and visit the Philly area and experience not only a real Philly cheesesteak sandwich but a hoagie as well. :=3

  33. @threethousandbees7260

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

I would still go ham on that steak sandwich

  34. @willhughes2672

That breaded turkey dish looked delicious!

To be honest, the only reason why I don't have Sidekick by now is that I'm vegan and I'm not sure if you are providing full vegan meal planning. I don't know what your plans but I believe having a vegan option can be interesting since more and more people are leaning toward veganism and more new/experimental vegans are looking for convenient recipes to replace their habits. You can take leverage of movements such as Veganuary to reach out to a lot of people by filling this gap in the market. 🙂

Watching this multiple times you spot things you missed the first time
3:33 for example, Mike splitting his egg yolk into the large bowl, Ebbers looks towards the camera and shakes his head with a "nope" grin!

  38. @CrispyCustardCreams

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

The ebbers compliment sandwich of "Cheating with the microwave for the jacket potato" can tell he struggled XD

  41. @ryanengle3188

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

That's what you get for talking shit on Philadelphia Mike. We make the best Cheese Steaks. You have to step out and away from the tourist traps.
That's the worst sorry excuse for a cheese steak. Christ even the Tourist traps do better.

  42. @joeytheredkangaroo9393

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

Mike looked so normal today. That is good to see

  43. @archiejohnston8

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

why would anyone go to waitrose on a thrift challenge? 😂😂

  44. @stecky87

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

I like this sort of competition: A limited budget that gets a bunch of ingredients shared over several dishes. I don't know that I'd eat the last dish, but all the credit because at the end of the week, sometimes you have random stuff left that you have to figure out what to do with.

  45. @TheSongwritingCat

    January 7, 2024 at 2:58 pm

It's interesting to learn about UK grocery prices. A lot of the ingredients that go into Meal Packs are way more expensive here.

  46. @vickiburn5881

Love the idea behind this. Why did no-one call Mike out on wasting the egg whites?
