My grandfather was pilot during WW2 and was given carrots every meal for eyesight! After the war he couldn't eat carrots. Lol!!!

Cheese soup made with brie is a new idea! Cranberries go so well with brie; how about serving the soup with a cranberry scone?

I've never heard of cheeses causing nightmares. If I eat a pickles at night, I get horrible nightmares. If I eat mango, weird, surreal, trippy dreams. 😀

This video is 5 years old but I have only just found it. The carrot helping you see in the dark was a story started by the allies in WW2 to explain away why so many German planes were being shot down by British pilots. The truth was we have developed Radar and it was top secret.

Lol… What nonsense is this? Lol

  9. @Varunastra425

The 'Carrots give you night vision' myth actually came from WW2. Soldiers spread the rumor that carrots gave better vision at night to germans. This was to hide the new invention of night vision goggles from the enemy

I am an older divorced woman and I have no idea why Ben is single, he cooks, is a genuinely nice person, has a wonderful garden, has a job and good friends that also have jobs! Great prospect!!

I mean, myth 4 is technically correct. Its like saying water evaporates at 100 degrees Celsius, water evaporates at all temperature above freezing but it also evaporate at boiling temperature.

Se supone que las zanahorias tienen más betacaroteno, más que vitamina A, por lo tanto en la realidad comes más color naranja más que vitamina.

An interesting point with the alcohol myth if you have a friend with alcohol sensitive or allergy the cooking won't change anything for them because the core ingredients are still the same.

  20. @randalthor741

The myth about carrots helping you to see in the dark actually started as wartime propaganda. To explain the RAF's success at intercepting German bombers over the UK at night, the story was spread that a diet heavy in carrots was helping the RAF pilots and spotters to see in the dark (based on the fact that carrots do contain nutrients that help your eyes to stay healthy). In fact, the secret to their success was radar, but that was top secret and they didn't want the Nazis to know that they had successfully developed and built radar emplacements.

i think the carrot myth came from the world wars and it was to hide the uk had radar, wasnt it?

Jamie sounded so smart on his first explanation about the microwave radiation. He had me fooled, I thought wow, maybe he does science stuff when he isn't playing with food. But then he did his second explanation and I realized it likely wasn't the case. hah

And then you have Eastern Europeans who drink warm rakija with an insane amount of alcohol in it 😀

  29. @Jelleybean18

    January 6, 2024 at 9:25 am

I mean I know people are Ben thirsty, obviously. I just wish Ben happiness 🙂 If he wants a partner, I hope he finds one. If he doesn't want a partner then I feel he can totally do it and I give him kudos!
You need to be your own partner first before getting a partner and you'll be your best partner, in the end. No man or woman is necessary for happiness – its just a bonus in life.

There have been experiments showing the microwave alters what we put into it. I have not done my research so I cannot actually speak to it but my friend did an experiment where they grew beans or something.
They watered the plants using tap water versus tap water that was microwaved and cooled to room temperature, in advance.
The plants watered with the microwaved water did not grow as vibrantly or quickly as the others. So there is something happening there that is not good. Maybe radiation (even though small) did manage to stay attached to the water or maybe things leached into the water from the surrounding area. Also have to factor in if they microwaved the water in plastic or glass which is a whole other topic.
I feel there is not enough research behind the effects of the microwave to our food so we'll see how things change in the upcoming years.

  31. @Annie1962

    January 6, 2024 at 9:25 am

I'm sure Jamie's relieved the carrot experiment had nothing to do with fertility.

  33. @sharmilapaul1200

Love this, will say however that with respect to the carrot myth, while of course y'all were right that carrots don't help you see in the dark, rhodopsin is used by our rod photoreceptors in our eyes, which do help us see in dim light… so I guess that's the loose scientific origin of that myth. The things you learn in med school (or undergrad) lol

  34. @helenhascatallergy413

    January 6, 2024 at 9:25 am

Love the fact that Barry is that whammed he's drinking jugs of water by the time Ben is cooking!

The only thing I definitively learned from this is that if I get 1,000 microwaves together, I can create my own Tyrannosaurus Rex!

Cooking in a microwave does impact nutrients. Years ago, I fell into a habit of microwaving everything I ate. After doing it a couple of years, I became increasingly sick. A doctor was asking me about my food consumption. When he found out I was nuking everything, he told me to get rid of the microwave and steam veggies, poach proteins and otherwise bake food. Within 3 – 6 months my health improved dramatically.

You can actually buy things that keep both bottles of coke and bottles of sparkling wine fizzy after opened. They work by forming a seal or screwing onto the bottle, and then it has a pump that you use to pressurise the bottle, keeping the CO2 dissolved in the liquid.
