Ukraine troops welcome UK plans to provide Challenger tanks – BBC News
Troops on the frontline in Ukraine’s Bakhmut have told the BBC they welcome news they are to receive around a dozen Challenger tanks from the UK, a move they hope will turn the tide in the war.
Russian authorities claimed they have taken control of the city of Soledar in Ukraine’s eastern Donestk region.
But this has been denied by a Ukranian army spokesperson, who said fighting there is continuing.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has told the BBC that PC Andrew Harper’s killers will remain behind bars as he announces changes to the early release scheme aimed at easing prison overcrowding.
In an exclusive interview with BBC Breakfast, Burnham said anyone convicted of manslaughter will be excluded from changes brought in under the Sentencing Act, which would have made the killers eligible for early release.
Burnham said extra prison spaces would be created by deporting “hundreds” of foreign prisoners and releasing some inmates serving indefinite sentences.

Twenty-seven people have been killed and almost 400 evacuated after a Russian strike hit a warehouse near Kyiv, triggering a fire and a series of explosions.
Regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said a further 42 people, including four children, were injured after the Russian drone strike in the Bucha district.
An investigation has been launched into whether ammunition was being stored at the site, where search and rescue operations were ongoing early on Saturday.
Russia’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement that its forces had targeted “an ammunition depot” in the Kyiv region village of Myla, which stores “components and launch boosters for FP-1/FP-2 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles”.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the strike, saying that more than 300 emergency respondents had been deployed to the strike area.

Why are we not giving much more? From what I understand we are only retaining 148 – T2 to T3 and the remaining T2 tanks, some 80 tanks, could be handed over to Ukraine.

Kind of a shame Poland went with Leopard tanks and not challengers 🙂 The German government has hamstrung the German weapons export market for years to come because of their reluctance to supply MBT's or to allow the transfer of German made MBT's to Ukraine.

Couldn't sending out a few challenger 2 tanks be a security risk? What happens if Russia gets hold of a couple of them. I don't have an issue with helping Ukraine by all means give them everything it's just a concern as it's our main battle tank. If I'm wrong please correct me 😊

The Maidan happened through the fault of the West … the new government aspired to join NATO and it was not opposed to hosting air defense, near our borders, somewhere in Belopolye.
We could not allow this, we came to Ukraine and took the territories of Crimea, Donetsk, Lugansk without shedding blood …
80% of the Crimean army came over to our side and they are fighting on our side. The Don Cossacks are also on our side, like the offended people of the DPR, who survived the Ukrainian bombing of 2014-2016.
We will not forget those atrocities that the ATO (Ukrainian nationalist formations) taught us. We will bring the matter to an end, and then I hope we will deal with those who helped Ukraine.

Normally, I appreciate guest "experts" on BBC programs, but it is very difficult to listen to this apologist for the Russians, without throwing my shoe at my computer! Who cares about how the Russians are going to react? Who cares at all about the "Russian perspective"? Do the Russians give a damn about anyone else's perspective as they bomb civilian targets mercilessly. Letting you know that at 0:43 That the Russians are using the same exact old pieces of soviet equipment with little to most likely No modification whatsoever, even older models than the Ukrainians considering many Ukrainian tanks were fitted with newer technology, You also cant tell me these are no match to putins army, a country ranked in the 15-20's has in many cases won against and in other cases put one of the "Most feared best armies" at a halt. the "#2nd best military".
