Record Covid deaths and cases with NHS under extreme pressure – BBC News
The UK has recorded the highest number of coronavirus deaths in a single day since the start of the pandemic — 1,325 more people have lost their lives.
A record number of new Covid cases was also recorded, more than 68,000 in a 24 hours period.
Hospitals across the UK are under severe pressure, with some treating many more patients than during the first peak in April.
London and the South East of England are currently facing the most pressure with one NHS leader saying the situation is “off the scale”.
For some of the most sick, whose lungs have not been helped by a ventilator there is another alternative. ECMO machines provide intensive life support, pumping oxygen into the patient’s blood so their lungs can rest and recover.

Seven people have died after a passenger boat capsized near northern Cyprus.
Search and rescue operations are under way to find 23 people missing, said Ünal Üstel, prime minister of the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
He says 267 people were on board the vessel when it capsized, and 237 have been rescued.
The boat left from the northern Cypriot port of Kyrenia at 11:58 local time (09:58 BST) and officials said it capsized around four nautical miles into its journey to Turkey.

Ukraine’s progress against Russian forces in its southern regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia has been far more limited than its successes in the north-east.
Both sides come under regular fire as they rely heavily on artillery to push forward.

The government has said it will exercise “extreme caution” over lifting the lockdown. Ministers stress it will be a gradual process, not a single leap to freedom. It comes as the Prime Minister prepares to address the nation, to set out the next phase in tackling the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile major airlines have called for clarity after being told that the government will bring in a 14-day quarantine for anyone arriving in the UK, from any country apart from the Republic of Ireland.
The transport secretary Grant Shapps has called on people to walk and cycle to work, once the lockdown restrictions are eased in England. He said it was a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” to transform the way people get around.
Senior clerics are urging the government to act cautiously before allowing places of worship to reopen. All churches, mosques, synagogues and temples closed their doors almost two months ago.

The instilling of misplaced confidence by the majority of people in the UK in the PCR test and the track-and-trace system is nothing short of a triumph of misinformation via the mainstream media, orchestrated with full governmental co-operation. This pattern continues right up to today. Covid deaths are defined as 'death occurring within 28 days of a positive PCR test' in the UK. This means that any doctor who certifies either a diagnosis or a cause of death as Co19 based on a PCR test is lying and breaking their hypocratic oath
