It's quite amusing really. In the UK you can make a complete and utter mess of a country economically, but so long as you keep taxes low, you can stay in power forever. 🤣

Conservatives continuously act in their own and donor interests over public interests, are outted in sleaze and corruption scandals, make poor and damaging major choices for the country and yet voters still vote for them. Is it all for lower taxes?

Why do we accept such a low standard to manage our country? They work for us, and we should demand the best.

I'd be happier to pay higher tax for the NHS if it were for nurses and doctors rather than to fund overpaid, pointless diversity and inclusion officers.

The currently anti-conservative "Conservative" party has a strategic electoral problem – one that is almost unique. In the short term the PM is (by far) more popular than any alternative. But in the long term he also is by far the most corrosive in terms of electoral support for the party. That suggests the 1922 Committee has a binary strategic choice. It can either push for an election ASAP and, assuming a working majority of "Conservative" MPs, ditch the PM afterwards (the conventional approach). Or it can ditch the PM now, find someone (a) halfway competent and (b) without too much blood on their hands (say Javid, or someone else altogether outside the current Cabinet); and then postpone any election for as long as constitutionally possible (crises help here) while the incoming PM sorts out the party and the executive's credibility vis a vis any crises. So in turn the answer might depend on whether it thinks the current crises are structural / cascading. If so, it'll have to go for the first option. If not (which I believe is likely to be the case, if only because the 1922 Committtee can't ALL be radical anti-conservatives! :)) then the second option may become compelling.

One thing is certain in my opinion and that is the Tories always manage to pull together and campaign successfully in the run up to an election. No money is spared and it has even been known for them to ditch their leader if they become an election liability!

  26. @Greatanotherchannel

    January 5, 2024 at 9:57 am

    Non political reasons
    1. They nearly collapsed our food supply
    2. They nearly collapsed our gas supply
    3. They nearly collapsed our nhs again
    4. Media caused all this bullshit
Anyway tldr continue being independent please

    Very misleading polls
As if the tax rise will pay for the nhs
I can remember what NI was meant to be for
Why people trust the government to do what they say with this money astounds me
This is the red bus all over again with the addition of a tax hike targeting lower earners
    Fuck this government

  31. @damarekonayaro5781

    January 5, 2024 at 9:57 am

Also the drip feed of post Brexit problems, you know the ones this current bunch of Tories laughed off as unpatriotic fearmongering

  32. @royhumphrey49

    January 5, 2024 at 9:57 am

Perhaps on a side issue – Afghanistan. From the perspective of me, as a Christian, the Taliban are evil and we should never have let them come back and indiscriminately murder and amputate people, suppress freedom for women and so forth.
Can we have a poll that confirms that all Christians are anti-Taliban and the work of the devil, please?

  33. @royhumphrey49

    January 5, 2024 at 9:57 am

You're rattling through these figures at break neck speed, You're not giving us time to concur with your arithmetic!

    January 5, 2024 at 9:57 am

This new system is bollocks. I now have far less chance of getting on the property ladder 🤬🤬🤬🤬 and unless the government changes the taxation on the average working person I will not ever vote again 😡😡😡

  35. @musingartisan

    January 5, 2024 at 9:57 am

Don't worry, the Tories will say some lies before the next general election, and everyone will believe their constant lies, then they will get back in, like they have for the last 10 years
