On front line in Ukraine’s counter offensive against Russia – BBC News

Published

on

Ukraine has announced more successes in its counter offensive against Russian positions.

Ukrainian forces say they are making “modest but steady” progress in three areas of attack across the 1,000km (620 mile) front line.

Troops are launching probing attacks, while most of Ukraine’s forces are in reserve as they wait for a big enough opening in Russian defences to launch a main attack to recapture land in the south of the country.

The BBC joined the 68th Jaeger Brigade as its combat forces sought to expand their control eastward of the recently regained village of Blahodatne.

The Kiev regime knows they are lying.
The BBC knows the Kiev regime is lying.
The Kiev regime knows that the BBC knows they are lying.
The BBC knows that the Kiev regime knows that the BBC knows the Kiev regime is lying.
Yet the Kiev regime keeps lying and the BBC continues to spread their lies.

Yesterday I saw a very brave freelance journalist deliver a video report from the Russian side of the front line. In that report some soldiers in the trenches – including men local to the Donbas area – gave their answers to questions. The most striking feature of those interviews was their responses to questions along the lines of "What would your message be to Zelensky?". (Interestingly, they tended to pivot the question into 'what would I say to Ukrainian leadership?') In any case, without exception, their responses were peace-oriented, along the lines of "We are all Slavs and should not be killing each other". (Quite insightful when contrasted with the implacable hate-rhetoric coming out of Kiev and the fact that Ukrainian sports-persons cannot find it in their hearts to even touch the hand of a Russian opponent.)

What struck me is the fact that I have never seen a frontline Russian soldier interviewed of the BBC or mainstream western media. Even though we supply weapons as a NATO member, the UK is NOT at war with Russia. Russians are people too: we should be allowed to hear what they have to say about the conflict and so make up our own minds about whether to disregard it. This is like coming across two random guys fighting in the street and listening sympathetically to whatever one says and coaching him, and putting the fore-fingers in the ears and going "La, la, la, la, la" when the second one speaks.

Why also does the BBC use February 24, 2022 as the beginning of time in relation to the conflict? Do British people not have the right to know that the roots of the conflict are in the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest where America decided that it would be advantageous to invite Ukraine to join NATO? Given that if this conflict continues to escalate – or Ukraine actually manages to hurt Russia – the likelihood is that Europe dies in a thermo-nuclear holocaust, don't the British public deserve to factor the incontrovertible evidence of Americas sponsorship of the 2014 coup and continuous spending on the Ukrainian army since then into their assessment of the conflict? Victoria Nuland of the state department and Geoffrey Pyatt, the ambassador to Ukraine co-ordinated the 2014 'Maidan' with the oversight of (then) Vice-president Joe Biden to install a puppet regime. Between then and 2022 America spent 4 BILLION churning out a new battalion for the Ukrainian army every 55 days from a base in western Ukraine. Why does the BBC insist on being the government's PR department by misdirecting the public in the arrant nonsense that Vladimir Putin is on a war of conquest when the fact and existence of the Minsk accords – signed by Ukraine – document that all he has been seeking since 2008 is that Ukraine has the same status as Austria or Switzerland – neutral – so that America can't use it to locate nuclear missiles on Russia's border. That Minsk treaty was negotiated by Angela Merkel – the leading 21st century politician in Europe. How is it not relevant to public debate among thinking people in the UK that this woman – who commands universal respect as generally the only grown-up in the room was so appalled by the 2008 invite to Ukraine to join NATO that she (seconded by France) defied America by vetoing it. Her reason: such a development would for Russian security amount to a declaration of War. If Europe's de-facto leader was able to recognise that as a legitimate concern straight out the gate, all the way back in 2008, how can the BBC, in good journalistic conscience vilify Russia over its having responded in a wholly and previously predicted fashion to American machinations in Ukraine? The treatment of Ukraine as a de-facto NATO member has forced Russia to take military action to force further negotiations on what it could never see as anything other than an existential threat to its continued existence. This is in principle no different from America being recognised as having been within its rights as a state to view the location of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba back in 1962 as tantamount to an act of war by the Soviet Union.

The BBC has shamed itself by being, at best, mealy-mouthed and selective in what it reports on this conflict, and at worse, just as active in the disinformation war against Russia as the military-industrial-CONGRESSIONAL complex (that was Eisenhower's original phrase) that is happy to buys Russian deaths with Ukrainian lives and has a profit-interest in perpetuating the conflict for as long as possible.

The offensive will cost many many causality if it doesn’t have air support and long range missiles to clear the back of enemy lines of defense. Ukraine have very minesweepers to make way for tanks to protect infantry. Russia already use long range missile targeting cities of Ukraine, civilians casualties what more reason ? Afraid of Russia and its allies?

What would the US say if Russia built a military base in Tijuana and not only say, but also do something about it? However Russia’s surrounded with NATO’s bases all around and even Ukraine was a candidate for NATO. After September 11 terrorist attack when Twin Tower skyscrapers were destroyed with 3000 Americans in them the US proclaimed the crusade against those who did it and their accomplices. However according to sen. Robert Kennedy 14000 Russian civilians were killed by Ukraine’s artillery in Donbass since 2014. Who could stop that slaughter and how long should’ve Russia tolerated that? Russia raised that case at UN several times, but the US blocked all attempts and Media has silenced it as well as many similar issues. How many Americans have to be killed in Mexico so that the US would invade that country? Why then does someone say, “Russia’s invasion to Ukraine was unprovoked”? Putin in detail explained all this, but his speech was deleted and all such information blocked everywhere. Instead the idea that Russia is evil and Putin invaded just because he wanted has been spread all around.

So go there! There are two reasons to hide in your lies! One is the American debt they are responsible for and the other is kicking Russia's dollar in the balls which hurts a lot. The United States is already thinking about a nuclear attack against Russia.

Britain needs to ally with Russia, and follow the example of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson and famous Russian Admiral Ushakov who worked together in the Mediterranean 1798-1800.

General James Wolfe, the Duke of Wellington, Lawrence of Arabia and General Montgomery and the heroes of El Alamein were also allied with Russia.

Ref The Austrian wars of succession in the 1740s, the Napoleonic Wars, The Greek Wars of Independence (Battle of Navarino 1827) , the First World War and then WW2. (Britain was allied with Russia 🇷🇺 🇬🇧 on all occasions)

Sea of azov now is as far off to the ukrainians as warsaw is to the russians. Nukes stand in the way of ultimate sucess. These are needless deaths. Being thrown into the meat grinder of Russian wall defence 3:1 kill ratio atleast. Once ukraine has exhausted itself the russians will resume their scorched earth tactics to create a depopulated buffer zone with roubled cities as fortifactions with long term defense in mind.

Great! Magnanimous! And victorious Russian nation over would-be global dominators. Everyone knows that Russia's kick in the bag of dollars hurts a lot!
Russian Security Council: Ukrainian forces reduce activity, lose 13,000 in counter-offensive
Today (22), Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council of Russia, asked Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to report on the situation in the conflict zone in Ukraine.
Sergei Shoigu reported to Putin that the Ukrainian Armed Forces still have offensive capabilities, but Russia is preparing to respond to further actions. The Ukrainian Army has suffered significant losses, has reduced its activities and is regrouping.
The Defense Minister stated that it is already clear that the weapons already delivered to Kiev and those that will be delivered will not significantly affect the course of the special operation.

The Ukranian counter offensive is defeated and the west is trying to save face.

The western buildup gave the impression Ukraine was going to launch something like the Red Army's Operation Bagration that stormed the Nazi armies across a 1000 km front line, and cleared the path for the drive to Berlin. BBC pundits expected that Ukraine would deliver a knockout punch in the first 72 hours and the Bandera army would pour in and press to Melitopol and take Crimea.

That Red Army's opening punch in Operation Bagration was devastating, their tanks could clear the mines, and the follow-up was swift and relentless. The Germans could not stop the Red Army's tsunami. The Ukranian Operation is nothing like it. They lost many soldiers, tanks and Bradleys, and could not even reach the first defence line after two weeks. The western face-saving talk was that unlike Russian made equipment, the Bradleys and Leopards were made so well the Ukrainian soldiers survived the hits, and that was an achievement because survival meant they could continue the fight !

Now that the Ukranian counter offensive is not exactly an Operation Bagration, the latest explanation Zelensky gives is that it is not a Hollywood movie ! Western pundits now pontificate Ukraine's counter offensive was not really about taking land, it is about attritioning Russia ! Earlier, they said Ukraine must avoid going for a war of attrition as that favours Russia, because Ukraine does not have the manpower, and the west cannot keep up with the demand for artillery shells, and so a knockout punch in 72 hours was essential, and if this was delivered, the Russians would crumble and run away.

The west did a similar retrofitted, inventive explanation for Bakhmut. Once Bakhmut's fall became inevitable, they declared it is not strategically important. And when asked why the Ukranians were trying to defend it, they said it was to attrition the Russian army. Like that, the counter offensive that was supposed to deliver a knock-out punch and capture land has turned out into a mission to attrition the Russians.

During the 17 days of the offensive, the losses of the AFU amounted to approximately 17-20 battalions killed and wounded, which is equivalent to 16 thousand people or five brigades of 3,500 people each. In total, about 5 brigades out of 9 trained and equipped according to NATO standards were allegedly involved in the APU offensive, which means that more than half of the reserves prepared for the strike have already been destroyed.

Counter terrorism police now leading investigation into Ann Widdecombe’s death | BBC News

Published

on

Counter terrorism police are now leading the investigation into the death of former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe, after “new information and evidence has come to light”, Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) has said.

“The police are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motivation for this attack. I will be updating the House further this afternoon,” Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said.

A 28-year-old white British man from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was originally arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday but has now been re-arrested “on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism”, CTPSE said.

Police said the “dynamic and complex investigation” had led to the new arrest.

On Thursday, 78-year-old Widdecombe was found dead at her home in Haytor, Devon, having sustained serious injuries.

Sir Keir Starmer is fighting to stay on as prime minister as the pressure mounts | BBC News

Published

on

Three members of his government, including Home Office minister Jess Phillips, have resigned, whilst scores of Labour MPs are calling for him to quit following a disastrous set of elections for the party last week.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is among a number of cabinet ministers urging the prime minister to set out a departure timetable.

Sir Keir said he does not intend to quit and threw down the gauntlet to potential rivals to formally challenge him as Labour leader.

No MP has yet launched a formal bid to challenge him, which requires the backing of 81 colleagues or 20% of Labour MPs, according to party rules.

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.
