Ukraine rules out giving Russia land in ceasefire deal – BBC News
The Ukrainian government says it won’t agree a ceasefire deal with Russia that involves giving up territory – in an apparent hardening of its position.
Presidential adviser Mykhaylo Podolyak said Kyiv would not follow calls in the West for an urgent ceasefire that involved Russian forces remaining in territory they occupy in the south and east of the country.
He said making concessions would result in Moscow starting an even larger, more bloody offensive in the longer term.
His comments come as Russia continues its attempts to encircle Ukrainian forces defending the eastern city of Severodonetsk.

Trump ‘completely wrong’ to restrict support for Ukraine, Italian minister tells BBC | BBC News
Italy’s defence minister has said it was a “complete mistake, a major mistake” for the US to limit access to satellite systems and intelligence used by Ukraine to defend itself against Russian attacks.
Guido Crosetto warned in a BBC interview that any such move by US President Donald Trump’s administration “makes absolutely no sense” and risked prolonging Russia’s full-scale invasion rather than helping to bring peace. Trump has denied asking for satellite access to be suspended.
Crosetto’s comments continue Italy’s sharpening criticism of the US.

Saudi Arabia’s energy minister has threatened a ‘serious’ response to the deadly Houthi attacks on Riyadh’s international airport. Flights remain suspended and are expected to remain so for days.
The Houthis said they launched the attacks in retaliation for “brutal Saudi aggression” against areas they control in western Yemen.
The BBC’s security correspondent Frank Gardner examines how it is that Saudia Arabia – which spends billions on its defence – can not stop the Houthis from attacking its people.

One person has been killed and 11 injured in a second strike on the international airport in the Saudi capital Riyadh, officials have said.
A Saudi military spokesman said a projectile had hit King Khalid International Airport on Sunday, causing a fire in a passenger hall. Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority said in a statement that one person, a Pakistani resident, had been killed in the attack.
It comes a day after a strike on the same airport killed 13 people and injured 308 others.
The Houthis in Yemen said they were behind them and warned airlines and passengers against using Saudi Arabian airports and airspace.

One in every six cigarettes smoked in the UK is counterfeit.
In this episode of BBC News Behind the Investigation, Melanie Stewart-Smith talks to File on 4 Investigates reporter Jane Deith about how the team uncovered the global criminal networks flooding Britain with fake cigarettes, and the human cost behind every cheap pack.

We also look at why gangs are moving from drugs to fake cigarettes. A former senior Europol official says they now make as much money as they do from drugs, with far lower prison sentences if they’re caught. The profits are being used to fund weapons, people smuggling and even terrorism.

Why did the United States stage an armed coup in Ukraine in 2014 and bring to power outright Nazis who began killing all those who disagree with the American occupation? Russia has been asking Ukraine for 8 years to stop killing people who don't want to be an American colony… Ukraine even signed a peace treaty with these regions "minsk2", but the US and the EU decided that it was geopolitically advantageous if Ukraine did not comply with this agreement and began importing hundreds of thousands of tons of weapons into Ukraine in order to kill all dissenting citizens… Russia was forced to recognize the independence of these republics and conclude an agreement with them on their protection! Now Russia is protecting them!!!
