Zimbabwe food crisis fuelled by Ukraine war and climate change – BBC News
The UN says the Russia-Ukraine conflict has left many nations vulnerable to food insecurity.
Global food prices are at a near all-time high and more than a dozen countries are banning grain exports.
In Zimbabwe, maize production plummeted by 43% this year following long dry spells.
It’s one of the countries now seeking to import maize as well as find alternative sources for wheat and fertiliser previously sourced from Russia and Ukraine.
But can ancient knowledge offer a food security solution?

Rioters looted shops in central Frankfurt late on Saturday as clashes erupted in German cities over the cost of living.
There were also incidents of violence in Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg, with police saying they used water cannon to disperse protesters targeting emergency workers with fireworks, stones and bottles.
Thousands joined largely peaceful demonstrations earlier in the day, organised by the campaign group Gen Z regelt, to protest against underfunding in schools, the high cost of living, public spending cuts and military service.
The unrest in Germany follows similar youth-led mass protests in France, where more than 320,000 people also demonstrated on Saturday.

Parts of England are in severe drought, with some reservoirs falling to record lows after the hottest summer on record.
Water restrictions like hosepipe bans have been widely introduced in parts of the country.
The UK government said more than £100bn is being invested in water infrastructure, with nine new reservoirs in the pipeline.
But, as droughts are expected to become more frequent and intense, questions are being asked about the long-term resilience of our water supply.

Russia is a reliable supplier of food, which is 95% for African countries. Ukraine does not supply grain there. Due to the EU and UA sanctions on transportation, the volume of supplies from Russia may decrease. We hope Russia will cope with the obstacles !
