Manuka is ok, but Prickly Gum is so much better.

P s Italian olive oil is exquisite but as the harvests get poorer each year, it is becoming expensive but 95 pounds , per favore!!

Great fun but if I may you pronounce stracciatella with a soft ci sound. Tanti auguri da Roma

There is a belief that honey should not be eaten with a metal spoon, but with a wooden or even plastic, supposedly metal change something molecular in honey

I know for a guy that makes olive oil in Montenegro on the sea side, they never sell those extra extra virgin olive oil, 1st havest, because it is reserved for a household use only 😉 But I think for that price it is pretentious, I am sure that similar thing could be found for less, especially if it non branded, but a homemade

That honey would best be used on a leg ulcer. Would fix it in a week.

    December 30, 2023 at 2:06 pm

I feel like their definition of pretentious might be different than mine on the olive oil. If it was premium enough to be worth the price I wouldn't also call it a scam.

Manuka Honey is not protentious, its incredibly delicious and just jets your health in the right direction

  10. @GGysar

    December 30, 2023 at 2:06 pm

The health benefits of manuka honey are kinda bs. Kinda, because it is antibacterial, but you don't get any of that from eating it, if you want to use it properly, put it on wounds to prevent and / or fight infections that are resistant to antibiotics.

    December 30, 2023 at 2:06 pm

You guys didn't know chilli strands? They aren't uncommon, I feel like even a decade ago pretty much every restaurant used them.

  12. @AbsoluteNut1

    December 30, 2023 at 2:06 pm

I guessed 89 on the honey. And that's about 5 times what it's worth.

The Olive oil if the lady who owns the company and brought it over to the market was cooking in it whilst she was in Spain then she was obviously getting it cheaply enough to make it viable. The fact she's basically slapped it in a posh bottle and a tube shouldn't suddenly make the idea of cooking in it something only the extremely wealthy could ever consider. She's obviously making a stupid amount of profit from each bottle but surely she's not selling them in the thousands so she got greedy and has probably made less money than she might have if she'd sold it for half that price and sold many, many more. If it was £45 instead of the stupid price she is then I can see fairly normal wealth people buying it as a treat or gift for someone who is a big food.

  14. @branmanmanhaha

    December 30, 2023 at 2:06 pm

So pretention is how something is presented, making others feel that it's of greater importance or taste.
I don't think that rare ingredients or hard to produce food products could be pretentious.
Pretentious ingredients are priced higher than the value and over marketed .

  15. @itsthepens

    December 30, 2023 at 2:06 pm

The Picualia first day harvest olive oil, without the Monica Galetti name attached to it, is available in an identical clear bottle with a similarly horrible label from Selfridges food hall at £35 instead of it £95. I haven’t tried either, but I strongly suspect it’s the same product. Still an enormously expensive olive oil, but I’d be quite tempted to try it at that price as a premium oil for use in finishing dishes. £95 is total madness.

  16. @TheJJluv123

    December 30, 2023 at 2:06 pm

It is an absolute travesty to charge that much for olive oil and put it in clear glass.

I don't think price alone makes a product pretentious. Having said that, I do think that a product that is rare, multi-use, and delicious weighs more heavily in a product's value than its price. The chili strands did not meet the criteria for taste, therefore taste and price make it pretentious. The olive oil is a toss up. Does it enhance the food sufficiently to make paying worth it? Maybe/maybe not. The honey is decidedly rare. The taste was, I gather, fabulous. Enough to eat it by the spoonful? No.

Health benefits for me are priceless. I use honey as a cough syrup for sore throats for colds for stomach aches… it's just amazing. And I'm a physician… if I could afford it I'd get a jar of that honey.

  24. @usernamedkjahstill5003

    December 30, 2023 at 2:06 pm

£ 95 in a clear glass bottle sponsored by someone I'm guessing is some type of celebrity. Yes it is very expensive and very pretentious. Regardless of what is in my bank account all the commas and zeros will not make me buy that bottle. Especially when I there are better olive oils for a lower price

    December 30, 2023 at 2:06 pm

it hurt a bit, seeing you pouring that honey on a piece of that crime you call bread in the UK xD (I use Manuka for bleeding knuckles in winter. works really well!)
