Published

on

Last night the government put forward a neutral government motion, an empty shell of a motion, and allowed to amend it as they wished. MPs tabled 7 different amendments and ultimately voted one through. We explain all of the amendments and how they impact going forward.

The proposal that failed on 9:10 isn’t Letwin. It’s Beckett’s amendment. Or am I missing something?

2:55 – Can the override the speaker's choice? If not it seems like the speaker can block anything he doesn't agree with.

Also, it's weird how your definition of "tabled" (put forward for consideration) is the opposite of ours (set aside).

Also also, at 10:20 the Speaker yells "ORDEEEER" and the caption is "[Music]".

Brexit: working class idiots who made a facist illinformed decision. It was not even a legally binding vote. The referendum was not really any different from a glorified opinion poll. This is all a big waste of time and money. Zenaphobic plumbers being lead by an irresponsible mockney slimey toad farange who just happens to live in a mansion in europe.
MEANWHILE BREXIT HAS COST THE UK 800 MILLION A WEEK . IDIOT RIGHT WING DUMBASSES. 26. @davidozoude2005

    December 30, 2023 at 5:08 pm

The referendum wasn't legally binding. I do understand that it was the will of the people. Makes it a bit tricky. WTO rules aren't straightforward. The UK is a member because of the EU. If it leaves it'll be in open water.

Think of it as California. California has the 6th largest economy in the world and props up other states; but if they leave the US, they'll have to apply for WTO membership.
Their products are sold within and outside the US. Same as the UK, the UK already trades with other countries. I think it's a misconception that the UK only trades with the EU. 40-50% of the UK's trade is with the EU, but the rest is with other countries.

The EU is basically a big country, and the UK is a state. The EU is a member of the WTO so products of it's member states get traded with countries out the EU. If we want a free trade deal with the EU as a non-member, we'll have the weaker hand. The US will only try to strike a deal that'll favor them and they can wait it out till we get desperate and cave in. Same as the EU.

    Nothing is straightforward.
