The British Territory of Gibraltar (found on the south coast of Spain) is one place VERY effected by Brexit. Sharing a border with the EU and hundreds of miles away from the rest of the UK, the territory was always keen to reach a good deal with Europe. So in this video, we explain how Gibraltar very nearly left the EU without a deal at all and what the final agreement was for the rock.

    British influence continues to shrink.

That's a pretty overwhelming margin to remain in the EU. Note that it's still not as overwhelming as the 2002 vote where Gibraltarians rejected the idea of sharing sovereignty with Spain.

Funny that the EU champions the right of the people to decide on their own sovereignty when the Catalans hold a referendum clearly showing a majority for independent rule but when the British leave the EU they are forced to seek approval from Spain.

Just proves that the EU is a corrupt and ineffective power.

I can't personally wait for the EU to collapse, In truth the EU has got the hump because it has lost a major contributor , If the UK does well then the German and other major players will look to leave too

Not that I’m advocating for British colonialism but I always found it weird Spain is so obsessed with Gibraltar when it has it’s own fingers in two pies in Ceuta and Melilla across the water enclaves by Morocco. Pot calling kettle black and all that

Why not let Gibraltar be Gibraltar not owned by Spain or the UK it's like Israel taking Palestine own your own land

  11. @Steven-og8jj

Spain stands to gain the most from a newly independent Scotland seeking EU membership. Okay so Spain might want to veto Scottish EU membership because Spain has the Catalonia independence movement and Spain doesn’t want to make it look like just any old autonomous region can go-it-alone/join the EU at their own free will. But. But don’t forget the UK has something Spain wants way more than petty independence sabotage and that is Gibraltar. Gibraltar is the key to all of this. Spain could make an ultimatum with the UK. “Give us back Gibraltar or we vote yes on Scot/EU membership.” The next day Spain could start being all gung-ho on Indy Scot being newest EU member and with England being stubborn on the possibility of free Scott they would give up Gibraltar in a second. Who does UK wanna keep more Scotland or Gibraltar? Scotland. Now Scotland does not get their EU membership in this scenario but Spain does get Gibraltar back. And don’t forget Spain has to be prepared to be very vocal/pro Scot Independence/EU membership if in the event UK calls their bluff and tries to hold onto both Scotland and Gibraltar.

I love seeing how the UK has done the worst thing ever for them. Northern Ireland might become closer to Ireland, Gibraltar to Spain and pretty much the UK might lose Scotland too eventually. Is a huge win for the European Union 🇪🇺 for sure

    December 30, 2023 at 6:09 pm

“Schengen participation makes Gibraltar as Spanish as Portugal”. Em… no. Portugal and Spain are member states of the EU and Spain isn’t the guarantor nor does it control Portugal external borders. That will be the case for Gibraltar. The de facto abolition of the border between Gibraltar and Spain means that they are going to move closer to each other.

  28. @rolybardsley7269

Gibraltar, and the other Overseas Territories should become part of the UK. This is how France and Holland treats its overseas territories. When, for example, you go to French Guyana in South America, you are not only entering a Department of France, you are entering the EU. This arrangement would most likely attract inward investment and hopefully discourage any more Territories seeking independence.

It seems pretty much a certainty that Andy Burnham will be the next British prime minister. Exactly when it happens depends on a few factors. We outline some of the reasons an early general election is likely.
