Sierra Madre: Fighting to save what’s left of a vital rainforest in the Philippines – BBC News
It is estimated that about 90% of the Sierra Madre rainforest, which protects the Philippines from the worst of climate change, is gone due to mining, quarrying and illegal logging.
It’s regularly hit by powerful storms, landslides, and flooding.
Replanting the trees in the Sierra Madre is said to be long, difficult, and even a dangerous job.
It has become a home to a conflict between people needing to make a living and people wanting to preserve the rainforest.

Five years on from the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan | BBC News
It has been five years since the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan, as western forces left, imposing their extreme, ultra-conservative interpretation of Islam on millions of people.
Their return to power brought relative peace to the country after two decades of war.
But Afghan women have been erased from public life. Girls are banned from school from the age of 12, and aren’t allowed to go to university.
Public parks are also off limits to women – and they can’t travel abroad without a male companion.

Go. Cut more and leave the whole mountain bare of trees. This will be the fate of this God forsaken country. There is no hope. Young Filipinos try to get out and don't come back. The country is hopeless.

If only for their stamina and knowledge of the terrains, the rebel returnees and surrenderees would be a big help in reforestation… that is, if our Govt is thinking on its feet, if leaders are dynamic and astute enough to make the time to plan and fund it. Instead, it chooses a path of no return. Ineptitude doesn't have a place in any decent and self-healing society!

You will not surprised that this country is still poor even thou it is rich in natural resources. From below to the top officials of government are viciously corrupt and greedy. You can buy in local online very fine hardwood and the government does nothing. That is the way in the Philippines. The land of corruption to the finest. Not even one illegal logger goes to jail. amazing.
@rommelrevilla4477
December 29, 2023 at 12:32 am
As long as our people elect corrupt government officials the illegal logging and quarries will still continue because either they themselves or members of their families own or protect such illegal operations, the one shown on the video are just small illegal operation compared with operation done by the official themselves
@BruceWayne_87

The government does not take the poor people who cut down trees seriously. Most of them are their acquaintances or relatives. Now the state of the forest is at the point of no return!
