Singapore to hold final horse race after more than 180 years – BBC News
Horse racing in Singapore is set to draw to a close after more than 180 years.
It has been announced that the small Southeast Asian nation’s only racecourse – Singapore Turf Club – will hold its final meeting next year.
The country’s government will take back the 120-hectare site, which will be used for public and private housing.

This week tens of thousands of young people have taken to the streets of Delhi, India’s capital, demanding changes to the electoral system and the resignation of the country’s electoral commissioner. Thousands have been detained by police in the process.
They represent the ‘cockroach’ movement, a grassroots campaign group started by a Boston University graduate in protest at government policies and high youth unemployment. How did a movement that started as a meme capture the minds of India’s young people, and start to pose a challenge to its long-serving prime minister, Narendra Modi?

Management can more and better, have to change their mind set, since there are more tourists coming in, STC can be a place where they can also visit, surely to encourage them not to do any betting,some tourists would like to see the horse racing in Singapore,doing business is no longer like the olden day, you have to make more interesting and happening, owner and Trainer can also do some charity to the community,so all will be the WINNER, not only when you win the trophy million of dollars,I can see the joy between owner and Trainer, zero contribution towards charity

It's not known as Turf City? The current race course in Kranji is known as the Singapore Turf Club (STC), Turf City was the 2nd race course,now defunct,currently used as a sports,recreational,food and beverage and used-car dealerships in Bukit Timah! Your correspondent got it wrong! Anyway,it is the end of the road for race-fixers,steroids,Roche pills and rogue jockeys dropping the whip intentionally! Don't think the Singapore Government doesn't know? With the shutting down of STC, same goes for the illegal bookmakers,punters, horse owners,errant trainers and mafia-related race-results fixing! Illegal bookmakers are the biggest losers! Thank goodness,the Singapore Government put an end to it,with a heavy hammer!

Not much interest in horse racing in Singapore. Used to be quite popular many years ago but there are more interesting alternatives now. Folks nowadays go there for the seafood restaurants. 😀

This is ridiculous. It's not my cup of tea, but I'm sure a lot of people really enjoy the art of horseracing and learning the horses and the terrain. There's way more space taken up by graveyards. I wonder if they have cemeteries in Singapore.
This was America I'd say there's way more than being taken up by shopping plazas and all kinds of ridiculous nonsense like how big people's front lawns are. They almost always serve no purpose people don't ever use them they want the privacy of their backyard yet it just remains big giant square of nothing in front of each and every house.
