CLARIFICATION: In the video, we make a number of claims surrounding the Crown Estate and just how the monarch receives from the Crown Estate or the Government. We wish to clarify the following: The Crown Estate is not the property of the Royal Family nor the Monarch in their personal capacity. As the Crown Estate website (https://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/en-gb/our-business/our-structure-and-governance/) stresses "The assets of The Crown Estate are therefore not the property of the Government, nor are they the Sovereign's private estate. They are part of the hereditary possessions of the Sovereign "in right of the Crown". In more simple terms, the Crown Estate is owned by the monarch "by virtue of their accession to the throne" "for the duration of their reign". Think of it like the keys to an office – when you start a new job (in non-COVID times), you'll probably get your own set of keys. You "own" these keys by virtue of your employment for the duration of that employment. If you quit, or are fired, the keys are no longer yours. The calculation of the Sovereign Grant is a bit more complicated than what we explained in the video. The Royal Family doesn't immediately skim off 25% of that year's revenues or net profits. Rather the entirety of it is sent to the Treasury. The Treasury then, in accordance with the Sovereign Grant Act 2011, calculates and sends to the Crown the Sovereign Grant. Under Section 6 of the Sovereign Grant Act 2011 (https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2011/15/section/6), the Sovereign Grant is calculated as follows: First, calculate 25% of the Crown Estate income for two years prior (i.e. when calculating the Sovereign Grant for 2021-22 use figures from the Crown Estate corresponding to 2019-20). Round that figure up to the nearest 100 grand. Then compare the rounded figure with the Sovereign Grant given last year. (After some adjustments), award the higher amount. In effect, the Sovereign Grant has a ratchet clause embedded in it – the Grant can only ever go up. Subsequently, say hypothetically due to a pandemic, the Crown Estate makes a loss that year. The Sovereign Grant will not suddenly become negative – the Treasury would have to stump up cash from elsewhere.

erm.., did the royal family actually purchase the land and property you claim they own in this video in the first place? – that belongs to the people of UK? No mention in this video of the favourable tax breaks they get such as inheritance tax, these are essentially a humongous cost to the public purse, as that money does not enter the public purse – not to mention everyone else are subject to these taxes. Really could go on here, Very poor video from TLDR, quite shameful.

If the royals contribute around £50m net between their crownestate contribution and the money they take from the government. If they were to become private citizens wouldn't that money still be taken by the government as tax? Cuz royals don't pay tax rn from what I can tell

Some utter rubbish as usual. How does having a sweaty child molester above the law and protected by the uk police for a brother make this a moral family that sets an example to britain?
If the king is the prince of wales, why do the welsh people hate him or seem uninterested in him and vote for welsh (and scottish) nationalism? This is hardly a good comparision for a branding like mcdonalds or coca cola who would go bankrupt if customers where disinterested in their unpopular products. This is not how you would run a business. As for politics why do we have an elite and out of touch comedy joke that is worse than donald trump when you can take him to court and he's answerable to the law but not prince sweaty pedo andy.

Britain needs to abolish the monarchy. They are a bunch of privileged people who are undeserving and even dabble in pedophilia. Britain needs to also evolve and overhaul its terrible political system and get rid of its colonial mindset. They are a complacent and entitled nation. I grew up there. I saw it first hand. They should put that tax payer money into the NHS instead.

Those pros are negligible at best.

Tourism in the UK would be even better if Buckingam Palace were open all year long and if tourists were able to see the bodies of the royal family (slowly decomposing in ice/liquid Helium or a mummification process).

Returning stolen gems and diamonds would better the relationship with countries that were oppressed and exploited by that family. Not paying 80 million and other costs like coronations would save the British hundreds of millions. And to be fair, they never paid a fair price when it comes to their real estate; they stole it from their people like everything else they possess. Taking it back would be more than justified.

Personally, I couldnt care less if British people advocate monarchy and enjoy to hype up the family that exploited and oppressed their ancestors and other countries for centuries. But I think that people who are above the law, dont have to pay taxes and enjoy hundreds of billions of blood money, endanger the countries chance to become a real democracy, where everybody has equal rights. At the end, British people decide their own fate, and if they enjoy being the subjects of some family, then who am I to tell them not to.

A Romanesc Republic may reach Kardashev 1, but a modern republic is formed from the destruction of legacy, tradition, and historical relevancy, so it will fail to reach Kardashev 1. It will be a competition between people, and everyone has to give in, and no one gets to have any respect. It's very chaotic, every person's life eventually catches up to them because it is too exhausting being in authentic your entire life. No one away from the planet would be interested in maintaining a governmental relationship with said city-state republic, so the expansion outward into space will be rickety, and the people of the Republic will treat setting foot on Mars as proof that they are correct about everything, especially the things that people can prove them to be wrong about, because the trip to Mars will have been interpreted by the republic as it! We've done it! Now lets get back and have this accomplishment unite the people back home!
A monarchy on the otherhand is a universal construct for life because it is predicated off family. It's just a civilization having utmost respect for family, and the families and the business spread to new worlds in a way that the democracy side of things is the democracy side of things, the important relationships between the families of this world with the family of that world is what allows of the monarchy to conquer the universe, and the reason why the republic construct was always doomed to failure.

  26. @Thommadura

    December 28, 2023 at 1:18 am

The fact is, the Royal Family is just another TOURIST ATTRACTION for Great Britain and should be judged based on the fact that they generate far more income to the country than the country spends on it so they are worth their position. Should that change, remember that once you cut them off, there is no going back.

If the institution of the monarchy were to be abolished, the family couldn't just keep their royal stuff. The Crown Estate etc. would, and should, fall into the hands of the government. So instead of getting 75% of the Crown Estate's profits, the UK government would now get 100%. The existence of the Crown Estate and the royal family's possession of it are arguments in FAVOR of abolition, not against it.

The UK actively loses money by allowing them to take 25%. Cut out the middleman, oust the monarchy!

  32. @gabe415

Let the Brits have their monarchs.

  33. @tarny11

If they bring a lot for the economy they should be entitled to a percentage of that. The crown estate should be given back to the royals they should run it pay tax. People would still l visit the royals properties if we didn't have the monarchy. Other countries manage it.

as an American, I can positively say, some people only go to UK to MAYBE, get lucky and get a peak at the borderline-inbred "royal" family. They actually really do. Back in 01' my parents took me on a bus tour of the UK( yes…a bus tour, Don ask why they thought that was a brilliant idea). Whelp, they wanted "just a glimpse". Personally, at 20 and now at 41, I never gave 2 craps. But for some reason…many people do. I can't explain it 🤷

  35. @pc4764

    December 28, 2023 at 1:18 am

Of course it is. Even if you don't pay a penny for it. Its abusive. Just because someone pops out of the anointed womb, their whole life is prescribed. They have to live it playing road kill to the tabloid press' seagulls. Imagine telling a 5 year old that you will rule the world one day. Very bad parenting strategy. And for what? The amusement of the peasantry? Get a life people. Go watch a soap opera.
