This week the UK published a paper that outlined how they want to change the Northern Ireland Protocol, an element of the Brexit Deal they signed only 18 months ago. So in this video we explain what the UK want to change about Northern Ireland and the border, how they’re justifying it and the EU’s reaction to this development.

It seems pretty much a certainty that Andy Burnham will be the next British prime minister. Exactly when it happens depends on a few factors. We outline some of the reasons an early general election is likely.

I believe Boris acted too hastily and rushed it to 'get brexit done' so if there is blame it should be with Boris, however this doesn't help matters now. All parties should renegotiate for the sake of peace, prosperity and relations. This stalemate is just going to cause damage. Surely there must be a solution.

The EU and UK are not fighting.
The UK, again, is behaving like a dick, threatening to break an International agreement. The EU will put them in their place. End of story.
Also, you have to remember that this is all being done for ignorant UK citizens. They are so insular they don't understand to consequences for their country.

I do hope the EU has balls and grows tired of Borris and his clows!
In many ways the the conservative party is a kind of anti Midas (all that touches turns to stone!)

If the DUP Got the first minister seat in NI Would this be even a debate??
I think it's because Sinn Fein are the dominant party that they can't handle.
Either way Boris signed off on the protocol deal and he can't wriggle out of it.

Pretending to delivering Brexit by creating legally binding treaties that are one sided and favour only the EU was the recipe for so long.. The EU and Theresa May allowed the WA to override the GFA border provisions by adding new text " including any sort of infrastructure" to deliberately tie future UK governments and give the EU the upper hand. It's time to fix these imbalances and not be retaliatory to the UK that decided to leave the EU. A land border for EU- UK trade purposes is inevitable, but it can be amidst Northern Ireland creating two sectors. GB goods entering NI could simply circulate unchecked in the eastern sector, where the vast majority of unionists live. A change in the constitutional status of NI by making it a condominium that equally belongs to the Republic and the UK would be politically acceptable.

The need to scrap the protocol and have random checks one the main routes from Dublin to Belfast. Check zones a mile inside each boarder. It keeps a hard boarder away and fixes the problem of the single market weakness.

The EU is on the right side. The Brits didn't want to sign up to it is their argument? Boo bloody hoo. The Irish didn't want partition. Might is right was fine when they had the might.

December 26, 2023 at 3:44 pm
I think the video is structured wrongly. There's no "butting heads" nor "finger pointing". There's the UK, that signed an International Treaty, and 2 years later wants to renege on it. The EU's stance is still the same.
Listen, if you and I agree on you selling your house to me for 200.000 £ then a few months after I say I don't agree with the price, are we "butting heads" and "finger pointing" or am I just being a douchebag?

Didnt even say the words Nationlist community or Businesses once! who need i remind you make up the demographic majority here and how we want the protocol to remain in place, We are Irish not British and never will be….. this video was ohhh boohoo poor loyalists voted for something got it but now throwing there toys out the pram cus dont want it anymore… Tough shit…NIs future will be decided by its majority and ppl… And that wont be within the UK as one off its most underpeforming & impoverished jurisdictions despite what the tiny loyalist minority want 🇮🇪🤗🇮🇪

It would be very interesting if EU did something similar, telling UK that EU want´s to re-negociate parts of the deal. My prediction is that the UK gov, press and many of the public would go totally bananas.
@TheReddkatt
December 26, 2023 at 3:44 pm
lets just call a spade a spade….The UK Gov were desperate to get out of the EU so they signed up to any old shit just to allow this to happen….knowing full well that at a later date they could force the EU to put up a border between NI and Eire using clause 16. That way the UK can say say to the world, we didnt break the Good Friday Agreement, the EU did so to protect their single market…..Cheque or chequemate?
@johnwilloughby4866
December 26, 2023 at 3:44 pm
This is all just to get media attention back into one of the only areas where Boris believes he retains a political advantage over Labour – Brexit. The border issues could likely be lessened with good will, but that's not what Frost/Boris' interest is here. It's in Boris' interest to reignite the Brexit fight and the divisions of the past – They are what put him into Downing Street. The resulting risk on future international trade, international trust etc. is secondary to the short term political need to move media attention off the supply chain / covid response report etc.

What the EU is doing to the UK is a disgrace. The UK is special. It has always been special. The EU should know that. It can not be compared with France or Germany or even that little country somewhere near Austria or Belgium which I can never remember the name of. They think they are so clever by writing the protocol in English. They probably just used Google translate. It is the EU's destiny to make the UK great again but they are failing big time. I think deep down the EU knows this which is why they are so awkward speaking English. The UK is not trying to ignore the EU, it just comes naturally. It's time the EU took a long hard look at themselves. They may never be special like the UK but they can derive some satisfaction from living just off the coast. PS: I would like to thank all my tutors in my diplomacy course at the Boris Johnson School for Foreign Relations. I feel I'm really making progress.
@RealLifeTech187
December 26, 2023 at 3:44 pm
at this point in time: can anyone really believe Boris Johnson anymore?
Easy answer: Northern Ireland and Scotland wanted to stay in the EU while England and Wales didn't & trends in Northern Ireland show people want to reunite with Ireland rather than stay in the UK so I guess the best solution is to unite Ireland as EU member state and stop worrying about sea borders 🤷♂️
