Stem cell cure for blindness tested – BBC News

Published

on

Surgeons in London have used human embryonic stem cells in a pioneering attempt to cure blindness. Cells derived from a donated early embryo were implanted into the retina of a 60-year-old woman with age-related macular degeneration – the most common cause of blindness in the UK.
Fergus Walsh reports.

Using stem cells from the abortion industry is criminal and I don't trust a damn thing after the fear mongering with covid by Big Pharma, AMA, WHO and the media narrative propaganda scheme. Way more people have been harmed from taking experimental money making vaccines then from the fake COVID scare. Flu statistics went to zero which kills people every year and were switched to COVID so hospital could receive government money to push the new expensive COVID clot shots…

My 81 yo mother is suffering with it since her 60s and I tell you the majority of us take our vision for granted.
I PRAY these doctors and researchers are successful.

I went for a simle eye test, nothing wrong with eyes, had a glaucoma test, that night I had cobwebs and flashes in my vision, told I could have a detached retina, had another optometrist look at my eye, said everything was OK,but I had a black spot, now I cannot see out of that eye.
    Strange but true.😢

Through conventionally available options, there is no definitive cure to reverse macular degeneration. Alternative treatment regime with stem cell therapy for macular degeneration and stem cell therapy for stargardt disease at Advancells, Stem cell therapy center is therefore gaining prominence in medical field. Stem cell therapy for macular degeneration provides a potential promise of angiogenesis and tissue damage reversal by tissue regeneration and rejuvenation.

This clinical trial is currently being held at two sites in the United States. I was a participant at one of them. The criteria for eligibility is very steep. After six months my mother and I were still the only ones they would “except“. Under their standards, my surgery was a success. It has been one year and I have regained no vision in the eye where they stem cells were injected. I am healthier than most people which is why I was excepted. I have a late stage for retinitis pigmentosa. My son is very young and has it too, which is why I took this chance for hopes that he may not have to ever enter late stage blindness. Personally, in my opinion, this study was conducted somewhat and ethically and they were always referring to Stem cell department at “product“. Just like any other medication, or drug. The testing they put me through was unbearable, and was not what they had presented in the beginning or what I had agreed to. It took me about seven months before I had to officially quit the study… I can handle a lot, I am no wuss , But the constant dilation numbing drops and eight hour long tests or very damaging to the small amount of vision that I have left. Such a shame, I was so hopeful and ended up so disappointing. There Hass to be something better out there.… Sorry for any typos I use voice text

How will Andy Burnham approach Trump, Ukraine and other world affairs? | Global News Podcast

Published

on

Andy Burnham is expected to become the next prime minister of the UK within a matter of days. And he will inherit a host of challenges on the world stage – preserving Britain’s “special relationship” with the US under President Donald Trump; maintaining post-Brexit ties the European Union; managing defence spending in line with Nato targets; and supporting Ukraine in the war with Russia.

We ask the BBC’s UK political correspondent Rob Watson how Mr Burnham’s international strategy could compare with that of the current prime minister, Keir Starmer.

On the 200th birthday of the Zoological Society of London, Roma asks the question on everyone’s minds: what are zoos actually for in 2026?

The Travel Show ‘Do Zoos Have a Future?’ is out this weekend on BBC News worldwide and anytime on BBC iPlayer in the UK.

Why Europe is still unsure on air conditioning despite record heatwaves | The Global Story

A series of record-breaking heatwaves in Europe this summer has led to a surge in demand for air conditioning units.

As Europeans search for a way to stay cool, attitudes and policies towards air conditioning have led to a heated political debate in France, which has baffled some Americans

The Global Story’s Tristan Redman explains to Sumi Somaskanda how air conditioning became part of the culture wars, and we ask Graihagh Jackson, the host of the BBC podcast The Climate Question, how bad AC actually is for the environment.

Thousands may have died in UK’s exceptional May and June heatwaves | BBC News

Published

on

More than 2,700 people may have died from heat-related causes in England and Wales during the exceptionally hot weather in May and June, experts’ estimates suggest.

The figure, from a team at Imperial College London, the Met Office and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, is based on what’s known about the dangers of extreme heat.

Most deaths will have occurred in the June heatwave, they say – the warmest June on record in England, when temperatures hit 37.7C (99.9F) at Lingwood, Norfolk, smashing the previous high of 35.6C set in 1957.

A rare red health alert was issued for parts of England and Wales at the time, warning even healthy people of the significant risk to life.
