As Brexit negotiations between the UK and EU continue to splutter on, some are beginning to question whether this is a lost cause – whether there’s any hope that the two sides could reach an agreement. That’s largely because there are still some pretty major disagreements between both sides, and with a matter of weeks to go, it’s not looking great for a deal. So in this video we discuss why a deal hasn’t been agreed thus far, if there’s any hope and what would happen next.

Yes I voted to be free , if a deal means we are still tie to the Eu, we will leave without a deal. The eu trick is to drag the negotiation on and on so they will ask for extension, no no no way Mr Frost.

Nothing in the UK is ready for January 2020. The government cannot even say what the extra paperwork would be for importers, exporters and shippers as the deal or lack of it is not determined and the UK backed out of the Withdrawal Agreement it signed and sold to the public a few months ago

I voted for a Brexit whereby we retain our freedom of movement, free trade, i wouldn't even mind becoming a schengen country. I wanted us to play the smart card and look into the Norwegian or Swiss model which allows more sovereignty whilst allowing more Independence from Brussels. I want my European friends to be able to move here or vice versa and not have the complications of applying for international driving permits or trade tariffs. If the ballot paper paper explicitly said Brexit is severing ties like is looking likely, i would never of voted for it.

  21. @thoughtful_criticiser

    December 25, 2023 at 9:20 pm

UK: We want to negotiate a trade deal for 2021 onwards.
EU: OK but first we want to keep you in the CFP and subject to our rules on state aid subject to the ECJ.
UK: What's that to do with trading?
EU: Let's talk about keeping French fishermen in work fishing 87% of your fish.
UK: No. They didn't care when it was UK fishermen losing their livelihoods. No deal looks good.

We'll take no deal now and the EU will be begging for a deal by the middle of 2021 as they have more to lose.

Mr. Frostbite is not getting us what we need?

  25. @buckfisherGBY

    December 25, 2023 at 9:20 pm

The EU has stated that it will not talk about anything until the UK agrees to 2 things that they have been told, many times, are not on the table at all. How is the UK being difficult? They told them , Fishing Territories and The EU Justice System's Standards, are not negotiable. That means they have nothing to do with them, and they have NO say it either, end of story. The EU just doesn't get it, these matters are not related to leaving the EU, other than the EU loses all say in both at the time of the deal. As far as the EU being a big market, it is better to have many small fires with many small pots, than to have one big fire with one big pot. Like. don't put all your eggs in the same basket. The EU is looking worse in every way as time passes.

  27. @chuxx7335

    December 25, 2023 at 9:20 pm

This is one of your worse videos and there has been a few. As you only addressed fisheries and not Level Playing Field (LPF), I’ll only comment on fisheries. The UK has about 200nm of fishing area, which is part of the CFP. France has the largest quota in the EU CFP, I think over 80%. The UK is asking for a similar fisheries deal, as that of Norway. Norway agreed with the EU, that fishing quotas will be set/agreed on a yearly basis and were given certain beneficial access to the Single Market in some areas, for doing so. This is what the UK is asking for, the EU want the status quo which is ludicrous.

  28. @benh283

    December 25, 2023 at 9:20 pm

Brexit seems unstoppable even now that we can see the damage it is doing. Where are the leave voters voicing concern over no deal and it's impacts, especially after covid 19? Surely even leave voters should also be concerned that Britain is being seriously harmed by no deal Brexit. The place most of them live is going to be a shadow of it's former self.

  29. @lexslate2476

    December 25, 2023 at 9:20 pm

Boris seems to want his supporters to think that the UK has a strong negotiating position with the EU. It does not. It had a strong position when it was in the club, but now that it is out, the EU has all of the cards. The UK has been deliberately weakened by this process, to the benefit of the people who usually benefit in the case of an economic slump. Specifically, the people who can afford to buy up all of the assets that are available cheaply when small businesses and individuals go bankrupt.

What doesn't the EU get? The marriage is over. You don't have a divorce with someone and expect to still be able to come over to their house and say have sex and eat the majority of their food, do you? But somehow this seems to be what the EU is saying. No, you don't get to take the same amount of fish from our waters and no the Brits don't have to follow your bloody rules anymore. Pretty simple really. Can someone explain that to the EU. Particularly the French, Germans, Spanish and Dutch. Furthermore seems to me the French have forgotten what Britain did for her in WW 2 and somehow the Germans are back to pre WW2 strength. How did that happen? I think it may be due to all that aid they got after WW2 particularly from the USA and now look at how they speak to the Americans. Doesn't seem right to me, does is seem right to you?

  33. @znail4675

    December 25, 2023 at 9:20 pm

I think no-deal is inevatable right now. There are too many red lines for UK to cross for a free trade agreement that is acceptable for EU. UK red lines could be kept, but that would involve a more distant relationship and those take more time to finalise, time that isn't availible anymore. It doesn't help that UK seems uninterested in negotiating such a more distant relationship as they insist on holding on to their red lines and still want a close relationship, essentially gambling on that EU will give in and make an excedption for UK. Wich is absurd as EU giving UK a more favorable trade deal then anyone else would be bad for EU's future. It is also not likely to pass EU parlament and veto's.

It's often said "the proof of the pudding is in the eating"
Now, most people have really no idea of what is happening behind the scenes…
In fairness, all 'democratic' governments want it that way…that's how they 'rule' by deception.
Sounds bad?…but trust me, it's not as bad as the alternative…force…
Britains 'ace on the hole' was always the prospect of an 'economic crash' in the rest of Europe in a 'no deal' scenario
Covid has turned that scenario on its head…
let me put that in some kind of perspective…
Know how much 'Gold' there is in the world? No? In fairness, I didn't expect you to…
But give or take a 'bob' or two…about 6 Trillion dollars worth…
Now here's the 'rub' global central banks have pumped about 20 trillion of 'liquidity' (money printing) into the market to offset the damage Covid has done…and that's just to keep the 'boat' afloat…
Borris is 'off' in six months…'Covid' it seems is even harder to 'see the back of' then brexit…if you can believe that…
Britain is going down…and Europe is unlike to come to its aid…it's going to have it hands full too…
But I do love that point in a 'game' when someone just 'calls'…the moment of 'truth' is at hand

A No Deal makes no sense once you analyse the situation. This is something that was never done by the Brexit proponents. They merely sold a vision of Brexit. Their rghetoric – take control, get money back, take no more orders from Europe, no more interference by the European Court. A sizeable proportion of the electorate were gullible enough to believe all this tripe. Now we are seeing the actual impact of a Brexit of any shape or form.
I would welcome your realistic view of a 2021 Brexit Britain.

This comment section is just remainers & pro-EU europeans liking each others comments, none of you even consider that the trading arrangements between nations should not be used for political advantage, why is it not a purely technical exercise? How can you justify holding the free trade of people like me (who don't care) ransom like this?

Why the EU wants to control UK? That is why Barnier is doing every thing in hie power to get UK to sign up to the fishing, ECJ, level playing field, and another one which I has not come to mind.

This video misses that as long as a deal is signed by the deadline, the deal can include a phase in period.

That wouldn't in any way delay brexit, it would be part of brexit.

  44. @bobclog50

    December 25, 2023 at 9:20 pm

Where I live, people didn't vote to leave because of fishing, trade agreements, or trade wars. They voted to keep out, pa-es, p-les, gy-ys, and anyone else with a different colour or accent, alas not to be. Figures announced this week show a record number of immigrants 330,000 mostly not even in the EU. So what DO YOU think about that. Not the sort of politicians you would want to do your banking with. Good luck with your travel insurance next year. IT, S BORIS. 👍

The UK has as expected made a total dogs dinner out of brexit. As expected the UK has gone into negotiations with its hands tied behind its back because they've played politics with the whole thing to placate the brexiteers. Now it comes to hard negotiation the UK has nowhere to go. If the UK tries to stop the EU countries from fishing after a hard brexit, the French will close down the ports stopping British goods going into Europe. The hard border in Northern Island will become a reality with a possible resumption of the violence we saw during the troubles. This is just the beginning.. I've ignored British politics for about a year and am not surprised the UK government has done the same.
