maybe I am just unaware of UK politics but is it normal for the speaker of the house to suggest someone resign over… well, I guess leaking parliamentary documents?

  7. @lennon890

    December 23, 2023 at 9:25 pm

It is parliamentary tradition that whilst making the Budget Speech the Chancellor may drink whatever he or she wishes, including alcohol which is otherwise forbidden.

    Were the OBR figures accurate?
    Or erroneously miscalculated on request?

  13. @DaWrecka

    December 23, 2023 at 9:25 pm

I wasn't expecting this budget to be so generous… but that's only because the Tories have set the bar so low it's not it's not even on the surface any more, to the point where nobody with a soul could actually describe it as "generous" without severe qualification.

  15. @ash-3216

    December 23, 2023 at 9:25 pm

I don't see a government ready to tackle a climate emergency or doing anything particularly radical. Personally I'd happily stomach higher public spending on green technologies (and jobs) and grid integration, especially as these are investments we could see a return on socially, environmentally and economically. This could be done alongside reskilling a workforce like Germany is doing when it closes coal mines.

The most interesting item to me was the £5 billion spent on genome sequencing you listed as something already prematurely announced.

What are the chances that the "leveling up" money for local governments will go predominantly to constituencies which voted Tory?

Oh fuck, the politicians are talking about inflation again, this won't go well.

  22. @bob1784free

    December 23, 2023 at 9:25 pm

So basically the tories are planning for the next couple years to reverse the policies they did during the Last couple of years. Now, does that mean they actually learned s/th ?

  25. @angrytedtalks

    December 23, 2023 at 9:25 pm

The purpose of Parliament is to debate stuff. Why should the MPs have to wait for the official release of the budget before criticising it? The public announcement should be the approved, final draft, no longer available for debate.

  26. @hugocartwright8273

    December 23, 2023 at 9:25 pm

Has TLDR just given up on objectivity? Don't get me wrong, I still love most videos, but I think they either need to revaluate their efforts or just stop pretending that they're objective.

  27. @swanchamp5136

    December 23, 2023 at 9:25 pm

I swear Rishi referred to domestic flights as a daily living cost like the majority of the country just flies everywhere every day internally.

  32. @davidmcculloch8490

    December 23, 2023 at 9:25 pm

Usual smoke and mirrors, amounting to LEVELLING DOWN. The greatest omission: climate change. Instead of ambitious plans to offset it, we have effectively subsided internal flights. No mention in his speech…more concerned about electoral slogans and vacuous bullshit.

  33. @airfranco8293

    December 23, 2023 at 9:25 pm

If the average public sector worker wage is 81K thousand a year and we have 5.6 million public sector workers in the UK that's 480 billion. 40% of our taxes are given to 8% of our citizens. Yet nurses doctors police teachers sanitary workers and most foot soldiers get shafted!.? Yet Boris and his cronies get 150K a year. Get a grip. They dont and wont ever give shit about anyone other than there own self interest. Even PCCs (we have 333 of them) get 80k a year and there politically affiliated what the actual hell? We even have ten UK high judges who get paid 250K a year to say "well you can't prove it didn't happen so therefore it must have". Bloody stupid.

  34. @blueknight07

    December 23, 2023 at 9:25 pm

Can i just say that the idea of having a levelling up department sounds ridiculous

Just imagine we didn't get the Tory's in and Labour maintained the borrowing and spending after the 2009 financial crash. Then Corona happened how much worse off we would all be, they're savings have helped us for this moment. They really do deserve a pat on the back for all this
