Funding wars, funding immigrants, funding criminals, brexit fiasco (planned imo) funding illegal lockdowns, bailing out banks, funding bbc, huge multi million corporations not paying tax, printing money when it suits you. Being fleeced by insurance, tax, energy, water and fuel companies……..I could go on!

Productivity has been in the pits for 13 years now. How long have the Rees-Mogg Tories been in power. Let me just check… Ah! I see a possible correlation.

Cut MPs Expenses and second homes
Cut the House of Lords money and cheap food
Get rid of a lot of Civil Servants
That would cover the costs
@leviercosmicwind

They could save a lot of money scrapping the schemes to put up all those cameras. Nobody voted for them, the money could be spent on repairing the roads. And stop paying people who just email each other and do no productive work.
@6haybay
December 21, 2023 at 4:30 am
It seems to me you work and pay your taxes then the MPs take out there share and the rest is giving to other countries, quangos, charities abroad, Top lawyers and solicitor for illegal immigrants to fight being deported and then not top lawyers and solicitors to fight the Top lawyers to get them deported I say not top lawyers and solicitors because the government always looses because we give the top ones to the illegals and we make do with the ones who struggled to pass there exams.

Just a reminder, Mr. Mogg – you helped it get this way by backing lockdown and implementing things like furlough. It is partly your fault.

The best career choice is to be either a state employee or a state dependent. The alternative is working to support either at a much lower rate of renumeration. I would rather a heart surgery department receive £400, 000 plus a year than to for some newscaster receive the same amount for announcing the news headlines for that particular day.
@brucesguitardemos8197
December 21, 2023 at 4:30 am
If the UK is to big then why allow an invasion of illegals daily to be paid for by tax payers ? A genuine question

I think there is a legal requirement in the USA that the national debt must be contained within certain limits. I forget how this is calculated but l cringe at the UK national debt levels currently.

End work-from-home and flexi-time bullsh1t to increase productivity…end none-jobs.
Shrink it right down..public sector is a growing monster that needs more and more feeding.
It's a gravy train for folk who couldn't cope in the private.

The Civil Service need reducing 50% at least and they should pay their own Pensions too, I dont see why poorer paid workers should pay for their pensions

We all know that our government is totally inept and useless so there’s no need to tell us. The government now employs more than half the working population on producing absolutely nothing. What we want our government to do is actually govern the country in the interests of the British people not itself and the public sector.

Sorry, but this just shows how thick Rees–Blob really is. Perhaps it would help to reduce the size of the state if this current Government stopped introducing laws that increase the reach and control of the state. The enforcement of the New Public Order Bill will only increase the number of police needed, the number of solicitors employed by the CPS, and finally the number of prison places needed. It’s very expensive to take our rights away.

The tragedy of soaring government debt is that it has happened under Tory governments over many years. I'm not saying Labour would improve the situation, au contrare. What I'm saying is that this should never have been allowed to happen if the Tories were a conservative party. They're no more conservative than Labour. And that's the real problem.
