Inside the brain of a gambling addict – BBC News
The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

I could write a book on my gambling over a 14 year period but its 2 much to put in this message…The moment I really needed help was the night before Xmas and I had spent all my money I had nothing and my Son had just been born…… I was going to end it all my wife had had enough.
My gambling started when I lost my home and the government made it legal to gamble online which has now got out of hand
117 to 496 gambling related suicides a year in England “associated with problem gambling or gambling disorder” which was produced by OHID and published in January 2023.
I picked up a phone and rang a helpline .I got 1 on 1 support over a 6month period with really helped me and the support I needed……….I had tried to stop for 4 years prior…… 5 years later I am free gambling
My wife stood by me and I am very lucky.
I have gone back to university to do music and won a international music award and putting my compulsive energy into something proactive which has changed my life.
That year was the hardest time in my life trying to stop, I still get the the compulsive inner voice talking to me at times but I just shake it off
……….Things people can do………. I hope this helps……………
Once your a compulsive gambler I think you always will be so I do not take the chance.
Do not feel embarrassed for help (This was something I struggled with…..the shame)
When you get a serious issues you must seek help go see a doctor, gambler local meet or help line
Remember its isolating for you and your close members of your family be open and truthful and accept your are an addict
Put everything in place so you cant gamble such as going on Gamstop which is a UK service
Remember
Its very easy to for people to judge and not fully understand what is going on, its a way deeper issue for me gambling is for the the key that unlocked a lot pain guilt and regret but now I have come out the other side and survived.

I lost my dad because of gambling. He's addicted to it. He chose gambling over us, his family. He died alone with his addictions. Growing up without a dad is one of the most painful wounds in my life. I pray everyday that people addicted to gambling will somehow choose change for the sake of goodness before its too late.

Tales ive heard through the grapevine.
This was in a 3rd world country do these amounts may sound nothing but it was also during the time of pandemic.
So a friend played some cock derby on the night of his birthday. Decent gathering with good good and overflow of beer.
Dudes probably too drunk too.
So they played it through online illegal site and started out with $200.
Bet 20, 50 then 100 for so on.
Eventually he got 2,000 in the span of an hour.
Lost everything in under 10 mins.
Doesnt seem to even regret it.
Good Lord. Thats 2,000 bucks.
Welp i guess if he won that anyways, the loan sharks would have heard of it and make him pay.

Winning a jackpot should have been the best thing to ever happen to me. Turned out it was the worst. I won about £20k in total. Overtime it all went back to the casino and then a couple thousand of my own before i managed to stop. It makes you so angry looking back like how is that even possible and you feel like an idiot. Then you see how many people lose everything and become in debt even. I wish i did my research more before I ever joined an online casino on how bad it can really get. An evil industry.

Consider a beautiful young waitress who works at a high end restaurant or a big casino or something like that. She makes between 150-300$ in tips everyday plus her salary. Pretty good money for someone who just completed high school and works only 40 hrs a week! One day, a rich old man offers her 2000$ to spend a night with him. At first she’s reluctant but considering the big amount, she agrees. Unfortunately, the manager finds out and she’s fired for sleeping with a customer for money. To make things worse, her boyfriend of 5+ years whom she wanted to marry finds out and breaks up with her. Now, she lost her job which paid her an average of 200$ a day and her future life partner. Was this worth it? A short term profit is never worth a long term loss.
Gambling is just the same. People win here and there but in the long run, they always lose. Now, speaking of the million dollar life-changing progressive jackpots. Have you seen the odds of winning? They are somewhat around one in 20-80 million. Imagine, there are 50 million people and one of them stole your wallet which had 500$. Are you seriously going to search for your wallet? Isn’t it stupid to search for the wallet? Wouldn’t you spend more than 500$ just to search for very person and most probably never find your wallet?

You cant win against the casinos, they have the edge. Flip a coin, heads you win $1.00 and tails you lose $1.05 . Over 1,000 flips you’ll see you start losing money even from 5 cents. This is how casinos works, each game statically they make a little bit of money. If they players keeps playing eventually thier gonna be broke.

I'm at that point where I don't want to have on my conscious the one that raped me but he's also a gambling addict, where he used also my finances to fuel his addictions. It's a heavy Stockholm syndrome of what I have, tried to help him stop gambling.

Why does the government allow gambling which a lot of people become addicted to , but yet doesnt allow people to do there drug of choice . They both ruin lives , but the difference the government is making hand over fist money from gambling , there not making any from drug use. Human life is a joke , money is yhe only thing that seems to matter in this world. Its sad when you see millionaires and billionaires driving to make more and more , and its all on the backs of low to middlle income people . i’ll never understand playing with your money but i’ve been addicted to other things so I can’t judge but I literally don’t understand it. I understand how you get addicted to substances, the euphoria of a literal high is a clear thing anyone can understand, everytime you get high you KNOW you’re getting high its guaranteed lol it’s not a win lose scenario how are you addicted to something that may or may not happen? addicted to games of chance is so wild of a concept to me. like if you are addicted to heroin, and you stop, you WILL get physically i’ll. I know for a fact that gambling doesn’t give you RLS at night, I know it doesn’t make you vomit and give you stomach pain if you go without it, night sweats, etc. it seems like the most choice based addiction ever

So here is my small story which might motivate you guys , so i was new student in canada and got into stake and was having no job at that time , I remember watching adds of stake and finally got on website , and lost all of my student gic worth 730 , i was literally shocked how fast it happened , then i borrowed money from my freind 800 , lost that also , then again borrowed 100 from another freind lost that also , again borrowed 300 lost that also , again borrowed 1000 lost that , i was literally in my room for 3 days cold didn’t knew what to do , i need to give rent , pay my student feees , i was crying for 3 days straight, didn’t sleep , so in the end prayed to god to help me and borrowed 500 from freind and guys with god grace i literally made 5000 from that 500 , tbh i thanked god man , what a relief it was , so my advice is please stay away from gambling unless and until you are a pro , yeah you can make money from gambling if you understand the algorithm and play with cool mind , god bless.!

I had made over 50 k from gambling and lost all of them. I had lost 4 years of my carrier and had to sell my vehicle just for gambling. Couldn't study, couldn't do jobs, wouldn't speak.. All i do was gambling. I am from india and when i finish my mney i took money from my family and parents for gambling and i would lose it all. I had to counselling to stop it. Even now my mind wants to gamble, thinking about a game yesterday i should have won if i had gambled.. Butit is a disorder and mental illness. I will stop it.
