Why Westminster Blocked Scotland’s Trans Bill

Published

on

NordVPN: https://nordvpn.com/TLDR

The UK government blocked a proposal from Scotland around reforming gender recognition certificates, causing shockwaves across the political spectrum. So what exactly was Scotland proposing? Why did Sunak block the bill? And why was this such a big deal?

Like Article 50 in the treaty of Lisbon whats the point of having section 35 if you are not going to use it. SNP pushed this bill forward to cause this issue and make the UK government move on it. Nicola thought she was being clever and could present this as the Westminster interfering. She failed to hoodwink her Scottish constituents and she stepped away as it was going to blow up in her face. She did this for party and independence cause not for the interests of the majority of Scottish citizens. I didn't believe a word of her speech when she stepped down, every word of her time in office was to promote her independence and SNP ideology. I doubt SNP is that healthy under the skin and I think the next election will not be such a walk in the park as before.

Don't think it makes any sense whatsoever to change someone's birth certificate. The stupidity doesn't end.

I think that anybody with a brain can see past the government's extremely weak excuses for blocking this, and can see that like it's other policies it's rather undeniably nothing but sheer spite for minorities and people who are different.

  8. @pentapox9665

    December 20, 2023 at 9:46 pm

Under no circumstances should you be able to change the sex on your birth certificate. That is a record of something factual that happened, changing it frivolously is wrong for many obvious reasons. Your death certificate, and your current identification can carry whatever gender you choose and that's fine. If you lived your life as that gender, then that's accurate. But when you were born, you were born with certain characteristics and these were recorded. Like it or not, it's a part of who you are and shouldn't be hidden from.

I'm wondering with what happened to Brianna Ghey did the blocking of the gender reform bill embolden those who litterally hate LGBTQ+ people to this as a green light that LGBTQ+ are valid targets, because what happened to Brianna Ghey happened came some time after the gender reform bill was shot down by the UK Parliament

  20. @looker999997

How much funding does mental healthcare recieve in the UK & Scotland?

Because it sounds to me its underfunded & sending people through the system too fast, because the solution sounds too easy when it may not fit everyone who needs that kind of help…

Equality is a reserved matter GRRBill affects the right to maintain single sex spaces under the Equality Act. The recent Haldane judgement (look it up) says legal sex and biological sex are the same thing. Shona Robison also said no predator would ever pretend to be a transwomen in order to access vulnerable women. Isla Bryson shows how wrong she is. So does Katie Dolatowski.
The Holyrood committee looking at this bill refused to speak to sportswoman such as Sharon Davies. SNP Members walked out when detransitioners Sinead Watson and Ritchie Heron came to give evidence. If you only speak to people who say what you want them to say, you can claim you’ve done proper due diligence.
I thought this channel was balanced and sensible. Certainly was over Brexit. Must try harder. This isn’t a left/right thing.

The recent incidents of violent sex offenders claiming to be transgender has put a very big hole in the chances of this bill (in its current form) ever becoming a law in Scotland.

  41. @mimistar1427

    December 20, 2023 at 9:46 pm

When there are conversations on various Trans topics the majority of the time discussion tends to focus on Trans women. There's very little to almost no inclusion of Trans men in the discussions it seems like a disregard of this group. Just my observation.
