Here the thing no government was prepared for this pandemic, and honestly cumming just comes out as a prick and not a team player.

Cummings can’t be trusted he is trying to belittle the government because they pushed him out, the guy is one big crybaby, he is very childish ,forget him as Boris and team are doing a good job for the country.
Look how flash CUMMINGS tries to be under questioning.

Imagine believing everything Cummings and Johnson said about Brexit but not believing him when he whistle blows on how poorly the pandemic was handled. We saw this shit with our own eyes and still the Tories will gaslight and say it’s not true

It will be interesting to see Hancock on committee. I believe much of what Cummings said. He implicates himself in the failure just as much so what is there to gain? However it sounds like Cummings and Hancock were big rivals in the cabinet, so his comments on Hancock could be heavily biased

  16. @squirrel6338

    December 20, 2023 at 10:47 pm

Cummings has close to zero credibility, at least in part due to the Kangaroo court last summer. It's funny how the same media organisations that tried to get him sacked last year are now loving his every word.
I'm sure at least some of what he says is based on truth but I couldn't guess which bits

It's not about whether you trust Cummings, what he's doing is getting us to face the reality of what deep down we already knew. Bumbling Boris has forever been a self obsessed pathologic liar, out to better himself and his rich buddies and doesn't care about the fate of the country.

His story sounds too credible to not believe, backed up by how pathetic Boris and Matt Hancock's defence has been, Matt evades while Boris dismisses the whole thing without giving a counter argument.

Those who say Mr Cummings is dodgy is probably a conservative. Plus he has the evidence at when and what he is saying is true. He is hero for our country exposing there mistakes which is why it’s vital we get a new pm. They should give the cons the truth serum then take them court 😂

  34. @paulcasey5204

Tricky for the Tories. If they discredit Cummings as a liar and a fantasist……what does that say about their 2019 election and the whole Brexit campaign? He wasn't lying then but he is now? Hard to make thay stick. BUT, it doesn't seem to matter as the party faithful, both old and new, seem immune from logic or facts.

everyone new there was no plan, PPE or 50% out of date, no test & trace & has never resulted in world beating just the death rate, a waste of £10 billion by headless chicken's working flat out on being incompetent. Yes I believe 100% what he says the past year bears this out & he's not frightened to apologize for his own mistakes & shortcomings; not like Johnson & Handcock

  37. @xlpeoplepower

    December 20, 2023 at 10:47 pm

There's always the need the scrutinise his statements but overall, I'd say that he probably paints an accurate picture broadly speaking. If his history is anything to go by, it's that he's an excellent campaign strategist but doesn't belong in government

  39. @Hfil66

    December 20, 2023 at 10:47 pm

The government was imperfect, but far from incompetent.

If one compares the UK government's response to that elsewhere in Europe or the Americas, the UK was better than many.

So, yes, all governments are far from perfect, and it is reasonable to point that out; but that does not the UK government any more incompetent than is typical of a government.

The criticism of the civil service is again quite legitimate, but that is the nature of civil servants in any national government in any government.

One of the big problems is that the skills needed to keep a steady course on normal times is very different from the skills needed to manage an emergency. The civil service has a lot of inbuilt inertia, which is not a problem when you are looking for long term stability, but is a problem when you need quick changes of direction in response to rapidly evolving situations.

As for concerns about the economic impact of the pandemic, that is an issue that we have still to get to grips with, and it is still very difficult to predict what the cost in human life will be as a secondary cost of the economic damage we have sustained.
