‘We have to walk round with knives’ – BBC News
Last year a knife or blade was used in a crime every 16 minutes, somewhere in the UK. There were 2,300 victims of knife crime aged 18 or younger last year, records show – a rise of 45% over three years, in England and Wales. The Home Office says knife crime remains below levels in 2010 but it recognises there is more to be done. The BBC’s Ed Thomas meets people who say they carry knives every day.

Today, an undercover BBC investigation has found evidence of law firms and legal advisors helping migrants pretend to be gay to get asylum.
Migrants were advised to take staged photos at nightclubs, attend LGBT events and to go to GPs pretending to be depressed to obtain medical evidence to support their cases.
Adam and Chris are joined by BBC politics investigation correspondent Billy Kenber, who uncovered the story. In response to our findings, the Home Office said: “Anyone found trying to exploit the system will face the full force of the law, including removal from the UK.”
Plus, Adam also checks in with Faisal, who’s in the US at the IMF’s annual conference. He fills us in on the indirect war of words between Rachel Reeves and her US counterpart, Scott Bessent.

Hungary has seen a historic election result. After 16 years in power, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been ousted from the role.
Péter Magyar’s Tisza party won a comfortable “super majority” with two-thirds of the seats in parliament, meaning the party will be able to change the constitution.
The defeat will mean a huge reset of Hungary’s relationships with the rest of the world.
Orbán has been a close partner of both US President Donald Trump and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, and he had become a big thorn in the side of the EU and Ukraine.
The BBC’s Europe Editor Katya Adler was in Budapest as the election unfolded, and takes you with her in this video as a historic defeat takes place.

Americans are reacting to President Donald Trump’s escalating feud with Pope Leo XIV and the backlash surrounding an AI-generated image depicting the president as a Jesus-like figure, which has since been deleted.
On Monday, Trump posted a lengthy Truth Social message attacking the pontiff, who has been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operations in Iran.
He criticised the Pope, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”.
The Pope said on Monday that he has “no fear” of the Trump administration or “speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do”.

US President Donald Trump said US-Iran talks could restart in Pakistan “in the next two days”, though Iran is yet to comment.
He also said the war is “very close to over”, in a preview of an interview released by Fox News.

Although I do feel really bad for kids who have to carry knives, I also must say that it's outrageous how kids and teenagers are raised to believe that hurting others simply because they chat shit is justified. Please forgive me if im beimg stupid here. Did he say i had to stab someone for talking abput him and his dead friends. How about you just talk and loose the stabbing part. I really struggle to understand this mentality. Right if you put as much effort into correcting your own behaviour, seeking employment as you do carrying knives, stabbing, and selling drugs, these kids would be millionairs. You cant moan about a situation amd keep yourself around people who continue to behave like that. Find a job, save money, leave the area, annd create a new circle of friends whos first thought isnt to stab someone, sell drugs, live in a life of crime. The term if you have a bad peice of fruit in the bowl the good fruit turns bad. Nothing changes until something changes. I do feel for them at the same time, but come on time to be responsible, only they themselves can remove themselves from that situation, anything else is just excuses. We alwayz have a choice, and it gets overlooked because they deem the better choice to hard. Well in my opinion they dont want the change bad enough. Its a sad world full of excuse. Anyone is entitled to anything if they work for it. I really hope these young men find someone to help them and they one day wake up and choose tp help tjemselves and leave this madness in hope of somthing better.
