Turkey-Syria earthquake death toll rises to more than 11,000 – BBC News
More than 11,000 people are known to have died following a massive earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday.
Turkish officials have said 8,574 people have died in the country.
It is understood that the number of confirmed deaths so far in Syria is 2,662.

Americans are reacting to President Donald Trump’s escalating feud with Pope Leo XIV and the backlash surrounding an AI-generated image depicting the president as a Jesus-like figure, which has since been deleted.
On Monday, Trump posted a lengthy Truth Social message attacking the pontiff, who has been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operations in Iran.
He criticised the Pope, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”.
The Pope said on Monday that he has “no fear” of the Trump administration or “speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do”.

US President Donald Trump said US-Iran talks could restart in Pakistan “in the next two days”, though Iran is yet to comment.
He also said the war is “very close to over”, in a preview of an interview released by Fox News.
Meanwhile, Israel’s attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon continue, after it held talks with the Lebanese government in the US on Tuesday.

This keeps happening and no one does anything. Something like improving the technology to forecast earthquakes. Best rescue equipment or tools available in high risk areas. Alarm systems. Better technology to detect people alive. For now we can only pray for them.

It's understandable that the first hours were scary, nerve wracking but after days some of those men need to be taught how to be a proper bucket brigade. Some are just standing around n some seem to be doing all the work. If they can't figure out how to bend down n pick up rocks n pass them down they should get down n let those that know how to work work! It's frustrating to watch them. I feel like a family member waiting to see some advancement. Those standing around need to ask neighboring cities to bring heavy gloves, buckets, blankets, face masks n lots of bottled water. They need to get rid of the men just standing around. If they are volunteers they should be doing something besides just looking! By now everybody should have a bucket & pail, small sturdy shovel. Every little bit helps. Too many chiefs, not enough Indians, as the saying goes….. Sadly it takes time to organize the proper aid and getting it there from other nations. It has finally arrived. 🙏✌

God bless everyone. Syria were left in ruins for years by the world. A lot of the buildings were unsafe. They could have been helped to rebuild their country for the beautiful place it was before the war. they were left in an awful situation. The UK were doing okay before the pandemic. Why didn't we help rebuild Syria?. America too they could have helped to rebuild Syria. The earthquake is absolutely awful and shocking!. They need to be helped long term and many need a chance to start again. The UK sends refugees to Rwanda and America after the Trump situation is not exactly welcoming overall. We can't just help people when they are in these situations. We needed to open our eyes and actually care enough to help before this earthquake and to make sure that the buildings were safe.
