On Thursday, Brits went to the polls to elect 8058 local councillors in some 230 councils across England. We look at the local election results, what they, and whether they could spell the end for Sunak, as they did for Theresa May in 2019.

Those against China will not be PM for long. Those who advocate working with China for a win-win benefits will be PM for a longer time. The British people wants good relations and stability.

Sunak or no `sunak, nothing will ever change because he’s just the puppet. His “friends” are the ones who make the damn decisions, he’s just thier out of touch spokesperson.

Would be interesting – and, I guess, just as much horrifying – to hear the opinions and reasonings of those 7% that "agreed" with Liz Truss' performance at the end of her spell as PM… I mean this is still way too high a number for errant votes, trolls and family members.

I would have Matt Hancock or Liz Truss as the next PM.There again the
Home Secretary could be the next PM.We could also have the MP’s
    for Salisbury,and Guildford as well.

The current state of politics is a sad mess. A mass of mostly politcally illiterate workers voting in cliques to work against their real interests. Though issues such as class struggle, alienation and actual democracy seem to be french loan-words.
Well, may the most popular clique win!

The Conservatives are just waiting for Borris to clear his name as the case against him will probably be thrown out of court now that it has come out that the woman who wrote the report was talking to Labour about working for them when she submitted the report on party gate and once Boris has cleared his name the party will repoint him as leader.

I want to fix the first line "Some brits went to the polls." as there were a nice stack of nuclear blast safe seats in local councils that were unopposed and therfore not voted upon.

  22. @carloscarballo3656

    December 19, 2023 at 10:48 am

Conservatism is a failed ideology, the empirical results of decades of conservative rule(domestically and abroad) shows this rather blatantly. Is it any surprise that the people's votes are reflecting that, even with the erosion of democracy from the Tories?

  23. @Mrcheekymonkeyisback

    December 19, 2023 at 10:48 am

I voted for three different candidates. it was a thing for us, idk about the rest of you guys. anyone else had multiple votes?
i voted for two labor candidates and one independent (to give us more say locally)

The fact that the benchmark, the last election, was set before the tenure of two entire Prime Ministers should tell you everything you need to know about post-Brexit politics.

  25. @MANUELEYTOR

    December 19, 2023 at 10:48 am

how can a party so unpopular and inefficient hold on to so much power? Their rule has been disastrous and yet they stay firmly ruling over people who don't want them.

  28. @MsJubjubbird

    December 19, 2023 at 10:48 am

Governments go stale after a while regardless of which party is in charge and governments also tend to change when the economy is going badly- and the economy isn't just influenced by the governing party but also many other micro and macro factors – like a war in Russia, people getting easy access to credit and global supply shortages. Sunak was handed a poisoned chalice

  30. @antonk.2748

    December 19, 2023 at 10:48 am

Brexit is what got us into all this crap to begin with or at least made underlying problems much much worse. Economic stagnation, brain drain, inflation, lack of seasonal workers, etc… Being more right wing and more brexiteer in order to fix the economy and "go for growth" is like recommending someone to cover himself in hairspray to make himself less flammable…

  31. @ika5666

    December 19, 2023 at 10:48 am

Why conservatives should be elected if they are not conservatives but masked green-rose-WEF-netzeroes? At least, more authentic anti-British left & liberals are now on the stage, just to be beaten later, if lessons are learned by us the people.

  32. @Da1Dez

    December 19, 2023 at 10:48 am

At this point they're just desperately making the track as they go along….

The problem with the Tories being so bad is that the only other option is Starmer. After he covered up Rotherham and Saville he’s vermin.
