Labour making gains in Scotland, but have committed suicide in Wales, have lost many Muslim voters and lost support with Khan and ULEZ in London. My money still on the Conservatives winning, with a reduced majority.

That's how politics works. Political Parties rarely stay in power for long stints of time one they make mistakes and fall out favor with the people. Then in the 2030 or 2035 General Election the Labor Party will huge mistakes then the people start voting Conservative Again.

It will be a sight to see to see a return of a red Scotland. If it is paired with a red England I feel like there could be some serious change in the UK after this long entrenched conservative government.

  20. @calummackinnon6956

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

This was a result on a turnout of 37%, in an atypical by-election and in a swing seat. I think that should be remembered.

  21. @Bradridge

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

A loss in a seat Conservatives were never going to win is a disaster for Conservatives?

  23. @leonharrison800

Any win for Labour is a joke. An appalling traitorous party that has the same values as the Tories. Nothing will change for the poor and marginalised or those wanting action on human caused climate disaster..

  24. @riz8437

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

You need to remember that the turnout was very low. The result at the general election will be quite different. Its clear that a lot of snp voters didn't bother in protest to the behaviour of Margaret Ferrier.

  25. @BrandonConrady

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

It's a shame that the Labour party are wasting their potential major comeback on such a garbage leader as Kier Starmer. The dude is basically Tory lite.

  26. @dezmundo1251

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

I think that Labour will need an actual policy on the West Lothian question prior to the next general election to have a chance of winning a significant number of seats in Scotland. Sort of obvious I know! They need to offer more than just "we aren't the tories" to the average scottish voter, where as in England they aren't going to need to work quite as hard.

  27. @Phlegmwahn

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

I cannot believe the people of Scotland will return to the Labour party where years of mitigating against the worse of Westminster's policies will just be given up. We may well lose the Scottish Child Payment for our poorest families, the reintroduction of the Bedroom Tax. We might lose free prescriptions and free tuition for our students; the moratoriam on Fracking could be lifted. Make no mistake Anas Sarwar takes his instructions from Westminster, there is no "Scottish" Labour!

  28. @marcuswalters8093

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

Why am I not more happy about this?

  29. @tommykeenan4930

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

The green policies of Labour and the SNP should be a major concern to us all in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 i don’t know what the answer is but I fear the worst. I am not saying conservatives are better but I doubt they are any worse

  30. @artrandy

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

The way the conflict in the Middle East is leaving many left wingers exposed, by supporting the child executioners of Hamas, could reignite major Labour wounds of anti-Semitism yet.

All over Europe, net zero is rolling down the immediate agenda, with even Green parties agreeing to coal power stations opening in Germany.

EU immigration policy is rapidly doing a u turn also.

The economy is not in great shakes under the Tories, but there are no major improvements Labour can make, without borrowing, and if they do that then they'll recreate the Liz Truss effect. The City of London is the UK's biggest earner, and any Labour victory will put investors on their toes to start with.

All these are self imposed traps for Labour, and if the Tories introduce policies that put even more blue water between them and Labour on these issues, Labour could fail at the last hurdle, just like they almost always do. Expect the Tories to salvage something from any SNP debacle.

You might as well rename this the wing and a prayer channel…….

  31. @gilvasquez840

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

Labour in the UK and the Democrats in the US have mastered the strategy of “Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing”

Please wake me up when both these Maadarachots are on their way back to their respective countries, preferably with that antichrist Sadiq Kahn.

  33. @douglaskinloch6272

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

OK, how Scotland votes has not made any difference to any UK election since 1974. Labour can't expect Scots to help them over the line if they drop the ball in England. According to polls they MAY get parity with he SNP, but independence is still at 50/50 and among under 40s it's nearer 75/25. Remember, Labour spent north of a £1million and bussed activists from England in to make up their numbers. Even after the recent drop, there are roughly 10x more SNP members than there are Scottish Labour (which incidentally isn't even a thing, ye gods, even the Tories have devolved their party here). The SNP are in trouble but his seat has yo-yoed at every election since the referendum. We'll see.

  34. @Ofasia777

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

All I know for sure is that Sunak won't be leader of the Conservatives for very long.

  35. @slipperydouglas8263

Clear labour bias from tldr, no mention of mitigating circumstances like the very low turnout. Bad journalism.

  37. @jcurtis04

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

Come back of Labour hahahahahaha. They called pensioners during the Scot-Ref lying that they would lose their pensions, told lies across the ref about our economy and also backed Conservatives. It should be noted this is UK elections, which Scots take less part off. Also, if they do win seats at next election and get more attention it will be a slap in the face to the Scots who returned an outright majority of SNP MPs in 2016 and it did nothing, as UK just turns its back when it doesn't get what it wants….

  38. @liviiskate

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

60% of a 30% turnout. Not placing any bets on who wins at the general election.

  39. @wastelander138

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

I doubt Labour will win a majority in Scotland but they certainly will put a considerable dent in the SNP's count. You can't convince the "Independence, by any means" crowd to drop their SNP support, regardless of how poorly they have ran things and how badly they have been lied to.

  40. @FriscoFlame

  43. @jasonswan7646

    December 18, 2023 at 6:29 pm

English people voting Tory for fear of an SNP coalition, surely that's not true. It's bad enough that English MPs wish to deny us a vote on our future, never mind England's people.

  44. @paulsmith1981
