For the soy arguement: soy direct to consumer, grown in eg brasil VS soy to cow to meat with a 90% energy loss (only 10% of food intake gets transferred to the next part in the food chain) ALSO grown in brasil… In that case soy direct to consumer is WAY better…. But if you have local cattle with local food you can look at it deeper to see if it is okey or not

So these "scientists" know that "plant based alcohol" is basically all of them right? Barley, oats, hopps. Plants.

I know this is coming late to the game, but yerba mate is Spanish/Mexican in origin so the "mate" bit is not pronounced like your British chum, but rather like "mah-teh". Good job on the yerba portion though mate 😉

I think the discussion around the environmental and human impact of vegan food is really important. Mass production of plant products often involves human exploitation- you are just replacing animal exploitation for human exploitation.

  8. @Draconicfire

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

Vegan needs to GO AWAY. It is a highly unhealthy diet, that costs 3-5 times what normal food does. Meat is GOOD for you. Eat meat, not that vegan crap.

I dislike the marketing of "plant based" for the drinks at the start as it implies alcohol isn't plant based, all alcohol starts from fermenting plants at the end of the day

  13. @martinbudinsky8912

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

Banana skin curry? Yeah no thanks. Especialy when I know how those banana skins often look. Better to composte it.

25 pounds for something non alcoholic?!? Are you mad?! Never buying that! I am drinking vodka that costs 4 pounds!

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

My dad has heart disease and diabetes, so I just texted my mom to tell her to add Fonio to the shopping list 😂 Because of the fiber and protein, it won't spike dad's sugar, and it's a lovely ancient grain.

Very very very late comment, but I have worked in the food industry (against foodwaste in fact) with the large scale harbour companies and I would never, ever recommend eating non-organic banana peel. The stuff that goes into the shipping containers to keep them from having mould and stuff is UNREAL. You never know what is on the outside of your banana.

  18. @nicoleturgeon-courchesne2212

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

Living in Canada…speaking of upcycling, I have seen that a few companies in Québec are using brewers' spent grain to make crackers and flour. I don't know if you have the same in the UK. Just putting that out there 🙂

  19. @TheRealBrook1968

People talk about switching to weird foods as substitutes. But can we call the peel of a banana "food" and when do we start caring about what nutritional value humans can derive in digestion by eating substitutes. The reason ruminants have always been so highly prized it that with four stomachs and chewing of cud, they can process and store nutrition and pass on to single stomached beings most efficiently.

  20. @TheRealBrook1968

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

What drinks out there are not plant based, aside from water?

  21. @2000madi2000

Can you folks find out if avocado pits are truly edible?
    Thanks lads ;;;)))

cous cous is not a grain per say, made from grain but it is a pasta.

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

Late to the comment party, but I only just realised this today, enjoying my sorted throwback: Banoodles ala Link og Good Mythical Morning, became a thing! ….
    Missing the label though

  25. @trilliand

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

But banana skins are full of chemicals from pest protection, etc. you can’t eat that!

  26. @bluereenie2

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

We need to talk about pronunciation here: It's OHkra, not AWkra.

  27. @knirpslyn2107

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

That 'physician' comment is why I can't, and won't, tell primary care providers I'm vegan. Also, the Texas BBQ flavor of primal is the best, wish you'd gotten that. While most of the comments around veganism suck, I do agree that banana peels are not a 'food waste' issue. They're a greenhouse/landfill issue because green waste should be composted and not fermented in landfills but food waste is about the $218 billion in the U.S. thrown out every year, the 9.5mil tonnes in the UK thrown out every year, while nearing a billion people worldwide go to bed hungry every night. It's not the peels being thrown out, it's the entire damn fields of food being disposed of (burned, binned, etc) to rig market prices and meet import/export agreements, it's the half a supermarket being slashed and bleached a week to prevent dumpster divers and sue-happy society from getting donations based on fearmongering that isn't real or law, it's the superstitious and ignorant throwing out perfectly good food based on unregulated sell by/best by dates.

Appreciate the highlight but missing the mark.

  28. @Daminite

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

Aside from a couple of fermented products, I can't eat soy without getting sick.

Banana skin curry?! Must try. Thanks!

The thing that stands out to me, is the surprise that there is a vegan business magazine!🧐😏🤷‍♀️😂

  31. @m.m9076

All those years ago when link made banoodles, turns out he was ahead of the trend

  32. @AnthroFox99

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

Some vegan stuff isn't all that bad. I got a few bags of the vegan chicken nuggets form a food bank (at the time I didn't know they were vegan) awhile back, and I tried them. They tasted pretty good but did a odd texture to them, and when I went and cooked the other bag I looked a little more then and seen they're vegan. I was shocked. (Still eat the other bag, and if I see them at the food bank again, I'm gonna grab more.)

  33. @schmerzdj5719

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

Those banana skins are NOT reducing food waste! We don't even eat all the good food, wtf does eating the rubbish parts do to fix that? Nothing…..

Composting the garbage parts and using them to grow more food is a much better option

  34. @Karoline_g

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

To answer the question of how do I get 6 banana peels at once? A double or triple recipe of banana bread!

  35. @alifacamilia1996

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

Not gonna lie but the banana skins curry caught me off guard 😂

  36. @queenbeemo42

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

I think it’s funny that they’re advertised as “plant based.” Most fermented beverages are plant based aren’t they?

  37. @ChelsiaLouise

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

You should try cocktails bombs or the newly distillery vodka and gin

  38. @themissnanette

There are certain area in Indonesia that has eaten processed banana peels for a long time ago, it's not really new to us

    Three Spirit was so disgusting

  41. @flexi0693

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

banana peels aren't exactly healthy though if the consistency is like aubergine and it doesn't have much taste what's the point of using them, you can't even compost banana peels well i don't want to eat them. also not many people buy fully organic bananas so there are a bunch of pesticides in those. especially the peels

  42. @GloriousAguacate

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

The only reason I feel vegan isn’t a bigger thing is because all they ever preach is how bad we are for eating animals. Just talk about how great food can taste without eating said animals. Unfortunately not all vegan food is that good to turn me off of meat but I think it can get there eventually.

  43. @TixlIl

    December 18, 2023 at 7:25 am

Bananas are heavily contaminated with pesticide and insecticide, a german health organisation gave the advice to not let children peel their bananas themself. i wonder what the results would be if you would have tested this banana skin dishes on those substances.

  44. @BacchusGames

As someone who is a big fan of Yerba Mate, hearing Ben's pronunciation caught me VERY off guard
