I love James but he really is a grump God bless him 🤣

I'm plant based and agree that carrots are not bacon but I notice James didn't object to calling the meringue "bread" like he did the carrots. I know he wasn't cooking it but he did comment on it and didn't say a word about not calling it bread. He said it was quite nice and not a peep. Maybe cause it's not something vegans use ?
I know chefs are notorious for trashing vegan food but I am used to the Sorted lads being more willing to judge something a little more open-mindedly. Poor James had a mini fit over the carrot bacon 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I call it "pretending to be cheese". Good on hamburgers because it melts fast, but not much else.

  3. @Timlagor

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

I'd add bacon and remove the excess egg.

  4. @telebubba5527

The eggy bread thing is just Korean/Japanese street food. There's a whole bunch of videos on YouTube that show them making them. Even far more elaborate than these.

Why is the egg sandwich a tik tok wonder? I've seen them made this way for 20 years

  6. @dcus55

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

    Making this tomorrow with bacon!

  7. @alanabaker_xo6445

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

Cinnamon sugar! The sugar will caramelise and give you the crunch!!

  8. @MrVaykadji

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

For the last meal, egg-sandwich, I think you would get a crunch by toasting the bread, buttering it, then one-side it onto the eggs. So it isnt soggy.

  9. @stephaniegruenberg7044

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

Why would you ever make that egg sandwich monstrosity? It would be so much easier just to make a regular egg sandwich without the ridiculousness of putting the bread in the egg

  10. @JohnSheffield1963

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

I haven't tried this yet, but I think that not egging the other side of the bread, and treating that side like a grilled cheese should give you the crunchy outside. (I used general terms since I know there are a variety treatments for the outside of a grilled cheese.)

  11. @JohnSheffield1963

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

Here is the US, you can get American cheese without the plastic wrappers.

The most important thing to keep in mind about TikTok food trends, is the goal of the video relies on the look of the food. Full stop. Since it is as yet impossible to convey thru video how something tastes, "viral" food videos will always be sus until proven innocent in my mouth.

The whole point of the (to me) stupid 60 second video format is to convey a "wow" factor that relies completely on the presentation andor misleading video cuts, fx and editing.

I guess im too old to find even a speck of interest in a video that is shorter than my morning micturation*

    *See "Big Lebowski, The"

  13. @FreedomsRealm

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

Loved the Sorted version of the egg sandwich. Might try some very thinly sliced tomato, onion and pickle Perhaps some carrot bacon?

  14. @harrodharrod5239

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

GIven you said the sandwitch needs crunch, wouldn't doing it "bareback" as Baz put it provide that after you flip it?

  15. @padrino2182

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

I thought Jamie said I love tapping the brown and her voice could tell me anything

  16. @michaeln3044

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

I’d add some fried pickled shallots..

  17. @FARBerserker

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

i would have toasted the bread slices to make it more crunchy.
then it soaks up he egg, gets a bit soggy and then it fries and
    goes back to more crunchy.

  18. @daniwalmsley611

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

If you butter the bread instead of flipping it, you'll get the crunch

  19. @robopecha

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

i would make the egg sandwich with sauteed onions and avocado slices. furikake. no cheese.

  20. @ageinst

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

Absolutely thinking about adding the crispy carrots to the sandwich…!

  21. @victorias.813

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

9:22 was ben watching 2 and a half men?

  22. @TheSeranath

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

Really interested to know how you would make the egg flip thing sans egg. Cheese?
On that note, for the missing crunchy element, parmesan crisps?

  23. @ringustfang

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

If they wanted the crunch with the sandwich then they did not need to flip the bread making it eggy on one side and then toast on the other

  24. @noodlessurprise

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

2 years later … clouds are white, so why colour them blue ?

  25. @Tomp4ul

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

Fully agree with when James says "Nothing wrong with these recipes, just don't call it bacon, y'know what I mean?" – I feel the same with a lot of substitutes which are totally fine products in themselves, celebrate what they are, not try and pretend it is something it isn't!

(Though fully get the logic behind tiktok zero attention span buzz words designed to grab people, though the original vid could've celebrated carrot once they've grabbed the attention with a title imo)

  26. @annemiura7767

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

I’m vegan – totally agree with James, we should stop calling things like delicious carrot crips, bacon ! 😂

  27. @RoyAchiron

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

So I agree with James, I'm totally not an egg consumer (sometimes I buy when I need to cook specific things, but that rarely happens), and the thing that would make that improved egg sandwich better is ditching the egg. I'm thinking – and I realize it's not likely to be noticed by anyone – how about replacing the egg wash/omelette, with bachamel sacue? I know you can crisp it up and make it crunchy, you can control it so the outer roux is baked while the coating on the bread is still moist. Considering how easy that idea is I might do that myself. Will @ you on tiktok 🙂

  28. @JudithOpdebeeck

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

Ben: is the only one disagreeing "I think it's a split opinion in the room"

  29. @luvshak3095

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

If you asked me if I wanted bacon and instead of bacon you gave me carrot strips, we would have issues.

  30. @prjndigo

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

People will fold the egg sandwich online but not their clothes in private…

  31. @ethancampbell215

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

Jamie being able to talk while he’s working shows the level of improvement he Barry and Mike have made since the start of the Sorted channel, it’s nice to see that they are getting better and taking the skills and information the chefs are providing them with, they definitely shouldn’t be called normals anymore because they are surely better than a typical home cook, like they know how to cook a large variety of ingredients in a variety of ways, they show an impressive understanding of flavour, both from ingredients and combinations to make a tasty meal, and they have a decent level of technique with kitchen gadgets, don’t get me wrong all of the chefs at Sorted are a level above the normals but they’re not far behind, and they’re definitely 100x better than when they started the channel 😂😂

  32. @ethancampbell215

    December 18, 2023 at 11:30 am

This video was brilliant for Sorted stereotypes:
•Jamie, the most colourblind man in the Sorted team insisting on being the one to add colour and playing up to the fact that as well
•A typical Benuendo we all know and love
•James’ disappointment with these TikTok trends because he knows that they really shouldn’t be a thing
•And Barry’s childlike happiness with his creations which everyone else rolls there eyes at, endearing to watch really because it’s nice watching someone work with a smile on their face, very rare these days
