That remoaner is an absolute muppet. In the glorious EU, where everything is just wonderful, economies aren't faring well. Germany is worse off than the UK, so are Denmark and Sweden. Inflation is still very high in much of the glorious EU where everything is just wonderful.

GDP is an outdated metric. Itโs just revenue divided by people. Youโve no idea if it cost more to generate that revenue. Itโs the economic equivalent of sales per employee.

Remember that aggregate GDP includes all government (and local government and quango) spending as part of national output. No matter how much we don't want it, no matter how damaging their activities may be, it is added to GDP.
Also recall that as the population continues to expl;ode we need a considerable rise in GDP from the private economy just to stand still.

I'm not interested in geeks and their statistics. People don't feel happier, don't feel more wealthy, and don't feel things are better.

So our population has increased which has increased consumerism. Now look around. How many people do you know who are working in companies making redundancies? How many people are losing jobs through companies going into administration eg Wilkos? How many pubs and restaurants are struggling or closing? What are we producing to make us richer? Forgive me i am sceptical and wonder what is really behind the headline?

Britain doing well?Where's our wealth? The country is falling apart. Everything is degrading.Or is it not?Is our wealth being diverted elsewhere. What's the truth?

The country is worse, not better. As usual the ones happy about it are the ones profiting whilst the rest suffer.

December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am
I never believed GDP. I think it's a BS way to measure an economy. Clearly our economy is crap and has been getting worse for years. Just look around, I see a different story. Nothing works properly and our infrastructure is certainly not. first- world and is getting worse year on year. Britain is a tin pot country.
@stephenconway2468
December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am
That is a fairly large revision. While the headlines might sound good, it now requires that we wait till the end of this month to see if we have actually been in recession this year. Frankly, we now don't know. That means the BOE's rate rises, while based on what they were told, could be completely wrong and damaging.
There is a reason why we need accuracy and expertise.
@JohnButcher-vx9xf

Please stop the non sense. YeH the economy might be doing better than expected but it is still less than the comparable performance we would have done in the EU. Moreover our lives are noticeably worse! My children have moved to Europe, at the age of almost 45 Iโm considering to migrate to Europe for quality of life and work. Brexit is a giant ๐ฉ
