Can someone explain why GB News thinks it is a good idea to have "comedians" trying to discuss serious subjects?

That remoaner is an absolute muppet. In the glorious EU, where everything is just wonderful, economies aren't faring well. Germany is worse off than the UK, so are Denmark and Sweden. Inflation is still very high in much of the glorious EU where everything is just wonderful.

Before Brexit UK economy was 90% the size of Germany now it is 70%

Funny that this upgrade has happened just before election year !

GDP is an outdated metric. It’s just revenue divided by people. You’ve no idea if it cost more to generate that revenue. It’s the economic equivalent of sales per employee.

So part of that business of the IMF sabotage to get Hunt-Sunak in was helped by our left wing economist saboteur civil servants.

Remember that aggregate GDP includes all government (and local government and quango) spending as part of national output. No matter how much we don't want it, no matter how damaging their activities may be, it is added to GDP.

Also recall that as the population continues to expl;ode we need a considerable rise in GDP from the private economy just to stand still.

  13. @Elizabeth-jd3mn

    December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am

I'm not interested in geeks and their statistics. People don't feel happier, don't feel more wealthy, and don't feel things are better.

  14. @tehmorbias

    December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am

It's almost like importing hundreds of thousands of people artificially increases GDP

  15. @haycockjeff

    December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am

GDP per capita is a better measure of wealth per person.

  16. @johannabarry4672

    December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am

So our population has increased which has increased consumerism. Now look around. How many people do you know who are working in companies making redundancies? How many people are losing jobs through companies going into administration eg Wilkos? How many pubs and restaurants are struggling or closing? What are we producing to make us richer? Forgive me i am sceptical and wonder what is really behind the headline?

  17. @seamuspadraigsanders431

    December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am

But will they thank us for brexit, hell no.

Britain doing well?Where's our wealth? The country is falling apart. Everything is degrading.Or is it not?Is our wealth being diverted elsewhere. What's the truth?

  21. @stuartsteel1

    December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am

The country is worse, not better. As usual the ones happy about it are the ones profiting whilst the rest suffer.

  22. @Dan-jg7zl

    December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am

I never believed GDP. I think it's a BS way to measure an economy. Clearly our economy is crap and has been getting worse for years. Just look around, I see a different story. Nothing works properly and our infrastructure is certainly not. first- world and is getting worse year on year. Britain is a tin pot country.

  23. @stephenconway2468

    December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am

That is a fairly large revision. While the headlines might sound good, it now requires that we wait till the end of this month to see if we have actually been in recession this year. Frankly, we now don't know. That means the BOE's rate rises, while based on what they were told, could be completely wrong and damaging.

There is a reason why we need accuracy and expertise.

  24. @JohnButcher-vx9xf

    December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am

So great news 0.6 raise instead of 0.2 loss but brexit makes 4 per cent difference , as usually gbnews bullshit that its amazing

  25. @cmsacademy1673

    December 19, 2023 at 11:34 am

Please stop the non sense. YeH the economy might be doing better than expected but it is still less than the comparable performance we would have done in the EU. Moreover our lives are noticeably worse! My children have moved to Europe, at the age of almost 45 I’m considering to migrate to Europe for quality of life and work. Brexit is a giant πŸ’©

  26. @chamberpot969

    The ONS is not reliable.

Watch as Will Kensington expresses concern about the state of the UK, arguing that Downing Street is no longer a place of power but has instead become Britain’s most expensive Airbnb.

This comes as Andy Burnham is set to become the UK’s seventh Prime Minister in a decade, with seemingly no one challenging the “King of the North” for the country’s top job.
